Please shutup. The gas pumps have nothing to do with our President. Here in madison, I'm constantly bombarded with "Bush is the anti-christ! Oh bush is responsible for everything bad in this country! Wahh! I'm a liberal! I like Kerry! I don't have a reason for liking Kerry, I just know he isn't Bush so i'm going to vote for Kerry!"

UGH. Give it a rest. You go right ahead and vote for the jiggilo Kerry. But please keep stupid comments like that to yourself.

i thought this was a thread about gas prices. besides, there are issues far more important than economics, that i am concerned with.

ps - not to bring up old threads, but how is your mileage these days, rob?

About 240-260 a tank, because I'm doing all around town driving.... a few weeks ago I had had the chance to use a lot of highway miles, and ended up with over 340. My car hates the city. :|

My car hates the city too... .... Down here in Beaufort I guess we are kinda lucky... The gas prices on base are $1.71/gallon of premium... Off base at the only other place I fill up (ENMARK) the prices are $1.76/Gallon of premium (93)... On base they sell 91 octain as the highest so I don't fill up there much... I don't mind paying a few more cents for 93 instead of 91... Just came back from a trip to Greensboro, NC and will be calculating my gas mileage later today...

That whole plan is internet crap circling the nation. It wouldn't work as Exxon/Mobil have more intrests then just fuel pumps, plus they sell excess oil to other companies, so boycotting them wouldn't work anyway. As for clinton and SS, there was no SS surplus when he left. There was a forcast of overall budget surplus that the Dems touted, but 9/11 caused a market downturn, airline bailouts, NYPD and FDNY overtime as well as insurance subsidies that NO ONE forcast for. Can't blame that on Bush, but try to point that out to a kerry-lover.

If it would work, I'd boycott, but, unfortunately, it won't --

http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/petition/gasout.htm

Meanwhile, I continue to pay 1.87 per gallon, the cheapest I've found (Ashland brand -- A Kentucky born and bred product -- also makers of Valvoline). If prices continue to rise, I'll have to get a Justy to drive my 80 mile round trip commute.

As much as people would like to tag "Dubya" with oil prices, sorry, that's one dog that won't hunt. You're barking up the wrong derek.

As for "welcome to the real world," if I wanted to pay higher prices, I'd move to Europe. I don't. That's why I live in 'Merca. I'll keep my freedom, thankyaverymuch and my right to piss and moan about the government, gas prices and all else.

We used to get 92 in California, but the last couple of years they have reduced it to 91 and the cheap gas, regular at the cheapest station in town runs $2.05

Thanks! That last paragraph pretty much sums it up... If consumers decided to pay only $1.50 and reduce driving when price excened that prices would stay lower , but we won't do that, many of us won't even carpool, a few years ago I worked 20 miles away from home and tried to get my coworkers to carpool since we all drove along the same highway to get to work, but they all refused, is gas really that cheap?

Yesterday,

I gased up at my local Getty station. The price for premium (92 octane) was $1.799/gal. They also have free air.

It's sort of funny to hear ppl complain of gas prices in your range

I pay nearly $5 / G .....

And that thing of "freedom" ...... I didn't really get that, do you mean that the US is more "free" than countrys in Europe ???

I recall too well asking the attendant (who also checked the oil and cleaned the glass) to fill my Galaxie's 22-gallon tank, and it wouldn't hold ten dollars' worth. Not many years later, folks I knew were swearing, "I'll walk before I pay a dollar for a gallon of gas..."

Ninety-three octane is approaching $1.90 here in northern GA.

"Free air"

Anyway, in my opinion, what's been said is very true. We cannot blame our economic woes on the President. He doesn't control gas prices, doesn't control output from other nations but he does piss them off.

Just the other day, the President of Venezuela threatened the US saying that his nation/government would not stand for an invasion (he was speaking about Haiti and Iraq). His government doesn't support the war in Iraq yet his nation is a huge, huge supplier of American imported petrol. Also, OPEC is planning to cut production when they meet on March 31st despite the larger demand.

It's also interesting, looking at the stocks for Chevron Texaco, Exxon Mobile, and BP. All of them have had negative growth except BP which has grown 2.7% in the past year. I don't know about other regions, but in central Wisconsin, all the Mobil gas stations have changed to BP stations. Whether it's green or blue, it's still too much for me.
