AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fiero was a good car? Did I hear that right? Every one I've seen has been falling apart, but I'll bet the chassis is the good part. I've got an '87 Trans Am GTA, the thing is bone stock and the handeling blows me away, but as with most GM products unless they have a very loving owner they fall apart after a few years, interriors break down, doors don't close right, and problems start croping up...

Right on...love your car and take car of it, or just buy a Civic.

If you ever decide to sell your GTA, I am VERY interested in making an offer if the car is what I want. The 87-90 GTA's hold a special place in my heart, and I WILL own one someday.

Ok done with sappiness.

The last guy didn't love it much it'll need some work, I'll probably need to pretty much strip it down to take all the little dents out, then the front seats need to be totally rebuilt, but it does have the 350 the sad thing is the car has very little power for that much displacement, the good news is that 350-400hp isn't hard to come by...

That's pretty much what i'm looking for anyway. I have my plan all worked out for my project GTA. I'll probably ditch the 350 in favor of a big block (if i can fit it in), if not it'll be a 383. I can take care of the engine and tranny work myself. Body parts for that car are a dime a dozen, and i've got a buddy who does amazing show car paint. Then i'll just leave the interior to CST.

Only issue is if the car has T-tops. If it does, then it's not much of a project car cause the torque from even a modded 350 will twist the crap out of that body. The hartops are the only cars of those years stiff enough to take serious power.

I didn't realize until just tonight that you live in California...so maybe I would be better off trying to find one NOT across the continent. But even so, if you decide to sell, let me know. I'll see what I can do.

I wouldn't even consider selling it for less than I paid for it, and even then it would be dificult to get me to part. I actually would like to restore it when I get a garage to store it in. I paid $2000 2 or 3 years ago, and the engine is strong, feels fresh... and it's a theft recovery, so it would have a salvage title.

Lets just say that a fiero with a V-8 is a deathtrap... but an exciting deathtrap... like one of those rollercoaster deathtraps A friend of mine had one, thing flew like hell, untill body parts started to rust away and fall off... it was a 350 chevy engine, with some basics. to bad he crashed the front end, and it was totaled... (don't know how it was done though, he bought it that way, and it looks stock)

I miss my "little car." (Oh, this particular one is not mine, by the way. Mine was a stock 1980)

I agree it's going to be a cool car, but I also agree it would have been better on the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX200/Lotus Elise platform instead of this new GM Delta global FR platform.

I've had 2 Fieros (unless you count the rolling chassis as a 3rd), and my first was an '85 GT; V6 with a 4sp manual...the quickest 0-60 Fiero made. That thing was a heavy car that definitely showed it's GM lineage, but 0-60 was clocked at 7.0 in my car shortly before the engine gave up...I think it had "loosened up" as they say, since stock was supposed to be in the low 8s.

I've also had an '87 MR2 5sp, and this was another matter altogether...MUCH lighter and more nimble than the Fiero, I could toss this car at any angle into any corner at will...I WILL have another someday. What fun!

That said, the only car I've ever had that could begin to compare to my SVX was my '97 VW GTI VR6. 172hp, 0-60 in 7.0 (actuall 6.8 on my GTech after a couple minor mods) and that sound...I am certain the SVX will sound as nice after I open the intake and exhaust a bit.

Nothing compares with 230hp and AWD though...nothing...

Your mid-engined Pontiac was the Fiero. The model lasted long enough to have a major stling revision. I also understand that they're actually pretty good autocrossing cars, but I'll take an MR2 over one any day of the week.

Or it may have devolved into a Legacy coupe. It's a shame the SVX didn't sell, but at least it stayed what it was. If it had sold, maybe Subaru would have kept true to the marque's philosophy and kept hand-building them. But maybe they wouldn't have.

We'll never know.

I dig the SC400, although I've never driven one. I'd like to some time. That and a BMW 850.

Im a huge fan of the SC's. my friend owns one and its smooth even at 180k miles.

I didn't realize that anyone was doing these conversions 'professionally'. Looks like a really clean installation. I might just have to keep my eyes open for a Vanagon Syncro with a blown engine to 'play' with........

That bug-eye Sprite and the discussion about the Fiero reminded me about a Fiero I used to see on occasion by my last house. This Fiero had a pair of those MONSTER slicks on the back end. It looked like solid tires in the rear. I always wondered, with the mid-engine, where the heck they put the motor..... I really wanted to see what they had managed to shoehorn into it.

-Mark

(What a beautiful shade of yellow on the Sprite, too..... )
