How many items are you planning on changing while you're in there?

Exactly, THERE ARE 2 TIMING BELTS, thats the first thing.
Secondly, taking apart the AC may cause you issues later. Avoid it if posible. Inspect the gears very carefully. replace ALL the seals. Do the water pump too. And I think theres another consumable you should replace while your in there, but ask around. Be careful, don't drop any parts inside. Thats all the wisdom I have, as I have not personally done an SVX.

Two timing belts???? I must have missed one when I was in there. While you are in there, change your cam seals, main seal and water pump. At least that's what I was told so I did it. Water pump looked fine at 100K but the seals were shot.

I thought a writeup was around here...
My foggy memory says that someone documented this procedure pretty well at one time.
However, it is not in the how-to folder. If anyone knows where it is, Hook us up dawg!

I thought it was in the How-To Locker as well. When I went there to link to it, I found that it was not there. I will get it in there as soon as we find it.

yup, only one due to the helical gears driving the intake valves...although there would still only be one so everything is timed right.....

This picture should show you how the belt works.

When I printed this pic from who knows where it was a little blurry, so it looked like 2 belts to me. It looks pretty long, yikes.

I believe the other consumable part is the Belt Tensioner. Most mechanics I have spoken with say they don't usually replace it. My take is it is a wear part and with everything open and 90 % of the labor done why not change it too.

The belt tensioner came up in discussion the last time. Most of us have just been reusing the tension. Now it has been suggested that this "device" wears and should be replaced. Otherwise the engine will start to sound like there is a bad rod bearing or something when it's just the T-belt/tensioner doing something that makes the noise.
I will not know for sure until I change my tensioner the next time.
