Well in 4 years, when I'm out of the Coast Guard, I'll be in the market for a new car, and most likely it'll be a Subaru. Alot of my reasoning is with the AWD. And well, knowing my 12 year old suby can outdrive almost anything on the road now, the cars can only get better. Right?

Oh yeah...I love the looks of Subarus, new and old. Even as they attempt to go more mainstream in styling, they still have that unique look to them. Different.
I think the only Subaru of recent manufacture that I haven't cared for (as far as styling) is the Baja. I like the concept and I like the Legacy model it is derived from - but there's just something about the Baja that doesn't look right. I saw what was I guess a '04 model that had a monochrome color scheme which helped.
The original Legacy was always a favorite with me. The Impreza 2.5 RS had a deliciously evil look to it, very agressive. It seems to be very trendy to compare the WRX to the Neon, but I don't see it.
That being said, I don't buy Subaru's for the styling anyway. I think they are very rugged, dependable, fun to drive and will damn near get you thru anything. I had that opinion of Subaru's BEFORE I saw the SVX...which was and still is the most beautiful car on the planet. The fact that it's a Subaru is just icing on the cake!

I think that the GC impreza's were nice and since then have gotten ugly ( the 04's better then the 02-03)...the Legacy especially the new one are looking more and more like luxury cars....the new turbo legacy is BAD A$$!!!
The STi has great performance but the styling is eh...they need to make some sort of specialty car again...make a new model or something.
just my $.2
Take it easy, Micah

I have a 98 2.5GT 5-spd Wagon and have loved the styling of this car since Day1!! The broad-shouldered look, dropped just about an inch all around just looks "mean" and always surprises me how other drivers get out of my way on the freeway. The car is no racer, but on a rural road with lots of direction changes it really shines! Love to lose SUV's through the twisties!!

IMO the new Legacy will put Subaru in new light with the enthusiast crowd. From what I've heard the new 2.5 Turbos are wayyy underrated HP-wise, and a new, lighter Legacy will certainly surprise more than a few of the unwary. The new climate controls, 2 piece moonroof and blinking mirrors/led backups are sweet!!

I love the new Legacy, but I think it needs a rear spoiler, not a park bench, but some type of wing to complete the rear. I had the wing on my Impreza as well as on my SVX and I like them. Not eveyone does, that's why they are called options. They are OPTIONAL!

Talking I like this thread a lot!!!!!!!!! Let's spice it up.

Hi.

My personal opinion: Subaru is about overall engineering design and approach.

Love it or hate it you have to drive it to know what it is all about.

In my teenage years I was already a car addicted and, don't know why, although it looked clunky, I always had a special interest on Subarus.

I had doubts about Forester's design but thought about wife and kid and safety and test drove one.
Result: made the deal right there!
This cars handling is just awsome (and here in Europe we get the no-turbo version with just a 2000cc 125HP flat 4).

I even drove it in offroad events together with Land Rovers, Range Rovers (I own a V8 as well), Nissan Terrano and Patrols, Mitsubishis, Toyotas, you name it.
I made through every single obstacle where Cherokees had to go back because they simply lost grip, whatever the tires.
I tell you: these transmission systems are simply the best!

Now some news to raise your voices.

I think you guys stopped way back with the B11S as thw newer example of how things are progressing at Subaru.

Check these two great examples of how Subaru is shaping up.

I personally LOVE the R1E (with the same yellow as my SVX) and although not totally in love with the front end this B9 Scrambler will put the MX-5 and the like on a museum if not for design at least for the hybrid design power specs (ok, it seems the Prius idea but I am sure the Subaru engineers have something up their sleeves there , not just a copy of somebody elses tech).

I left the links to the end on purpose...

http://www.autoweek.com/specials/200...B9/pages/1.htm

Look for the links on those cars on this link as well and read the brief descriptions:

http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2003/tokyo/

Ah. just remembered: did here about the Subaru Libero/E12, probably the first production vehicle around with a MPV design approach?

I am looking for one...

Here, although in German, you have it all!! Browse it and rest your eyes on those clunky, faithfull pieces of machinery!

Let's continue!

Andy,

We have a lot of those around but neither Subaru nor Suzuki ever had their Justy or Swift in our market on that arrangement.

It is a very popular car around here because it is fully VAT refundable for companies and they are a good mix between job car and leisure one on the weekends.

Forget about room for the kids though...

We have those from all the major ones : Fiesta's, Punto's, Corsa's/Nova's, Clio's, 106's, ...

Did you check the links on new Subaru's from my previous message?

if any subaru was ever ugly, it was the XT with the ground effects. you aint kiddin if you like that thing.

i like everything that doesnt have that kit. well, im not into those two little cute concepts. the ones with the puny wheels. everything else is pretty to me, especially the xt6, and svx owns them all.
im springing for the B11s as soon as my loans are paid off.

Yes thanks, really nice. The R1 would make a good car for the wife.
