245/45-16 tire a "no-no"?

Search of the Archives suggests the answer but curious if anyone has had this size tire, 245/45-16, on their SVX without a rub problem ?

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to ya'll,

Craig

The archive is DEAD wrong.

I'm running Dunlop SP5000s in 245-45-16 on stock 16x8 rims (I know the specs say 16x7.5 they are wrong, we measured them at 8" wide @ the tire shop)

So far put about 1500 miles on them. No rubbing, even under full load/full compression. You might even be able to fit some 255s if you rolled the rear fenders a hair.

I just went out and measured my spare stock rim,and it is definetly 16x7.5. The guy at the tire shop must not know the correct place to measure a rims width. Here is s ite with the info.

Hi guys, no need to get upset here...... I've mentioned this before, and I can send pic's - You can run 245's on the 7.5 inch rim. That's the legal max for a 7.5 inch rim. I'm running 245/45 x 17's without a problem on a 7.5 inch rim, and I agree with the above post stateing that you can run 255's with a slight "massage-ing" of the rear inner fenders.... There is lot's of room on the front for 255's. I mounted a set on the front with no problems, however the back was just a hair to close for me. I wasn't keen on trying to massage the rear fenders.. So I went back to the 245's all the way around. Just my 7 cents worth....

Has anyone rolled their rear fenders to fit larger tires? I'm curious to know how (bad) it would look.

Cool page.

Sux for WRX owners cause they must have 6" wide rims then

The place that measure/mounted mine used a caliper on the ourside of the rim (below the lip) which measured 8" then they stuck it on a WRX wheel which was 6.5" so that would mean theirs are actually 6" v. 7.5" on the SVX.

Either way the 245-45-16s fit fine with no buldging on them and clear the fenders w/o issue.

Wheel width must be measured on the inside of the wheel where the tire bead actually sits, not from the outside. Shame on your tire guy for not knowing better!
