Re: whistling noise

The bearings in the alternator go bad in that way sometimes. Mine whines kinda like that. Just pretend it's a supercharger, lol.

Re: whistling noise

GEt out a piece of wood ( 12 to 14" long )Push it hard against the alternator when it is running and put your ear to the other end you will hear it if it is the bearings going . they may last a year or 2 that way .

BUMP.

The car I just bought has the rear (alternator) bearing whining. Is the replacement bearing number known/available?

It will be a fun to pretend it is a blower until the alternator, well, blows.

It appears to be a common 12x32x10 bearing (6201 2RS ABEC-1 double sealed) on the commutator end.

And a 17x47x14 for the drive end (6303 2RS ABEC-1 double sealed) on the drive end.

I may even have them on hand.

OK, so the FLAPS parts listings are wrong for the OEM alternator.

The bearings are:
Pulley end - 47x17x18
Commutator end - 23x8x14
