4.44 4EAT swap questions
I have a couple of questions I couldn't find a clear answer for in all the previous threads (I'm trying to install a '97 Outback 4.44 EAT on a '92 car):
- Do I still need to use an external ATF oil filter? - Do I need a different oil cooler or the stock one is still good enough? Thanks in Advance, El

2)A different one, (any one from Hayden/Imperial for example) will be much less restrictive to oil flow. BTW, when you are done with stock tires your speedometer will read about 5.5% too high.

Re: 4.44 4EAT swap questions
Is it any optimum size for the Hayden/Imperial oil cooler? I remember reading that cooling the ATF oil too much is not really helping...

Re: 4.44 4EAT swap questions
That is true. Really, not much actually cooling is required. You are towing zero pounds. The stock cooler has a pretty low cooling capacity. I calculated it once but i don't recall what I estimated it to be. I do recall that it would have been rated at about the gross vehicle weight. If you go with a low rated cooler, you might want to lean toward a tube and fin versus a plate style. For smaller coolers, the tube and fin are less restrictive to flow.
