It sounds like my rear brakes are dragging...

how can I confirm and fix? or other ideas?

cant tell if it is the parking brakes or the normal ones. Any help would be great.

Hey, does it feel like your brakes are dragging or just sound like it? It might be your wheel bearings. (These cars are prone for bearings). They make a humming noise and the faster you go the louder it gets.

Were your brakes done recently? if so, maybe the caliper is hung up 'compressed' and it may need greasing

Re: It sounds like my rear brakes are dragging...

when I jack the rear of the car up and spin the wheels I hear and slight hiss or grind or what ever you want to call when brakes are rubbing.

I did the pads and rotors last august/september. and I did the wheel bearing slightly before that.

I repacked them my self and I think they are good.

It really sounds more like brakes rubbing. I guess I will just pull the pads and see if i still hear it.

Clean and re-grease the caliper pins while you're at it and make sure they are floating freely. Sometimes the dust shields get bent and will rub lightly also.

Re: It sounds like my rear brakes are dragging...

I had both rear calipers fail on me last fall and it happened 2 weeks apart from each other. They were locked and luckily I had slotted rotors that didn't warp. I bought reman calipers and problem was solved.

Check your rims immediately after you drive..touch them and you can feel the heat if they are seized. Mine also had a burned rubber smell when the problem was happening, but oddly nothing was melted.

Re: It sounds like my rear brakes are dragging...

It's probably just rust and dirt in the parking brake drum. As you drive off slowly, pull the handle to see if the noise goes away. I do that every time I hear the same sound.
