If I recall correctly, the FWD trans has a flatter rear housing, more like a cover, since there is nothing but two gears to drive the pinion shaft to transfer power from the main shaft to the front diff, therefore no sensor on the housing

That's why I didn't see it outside

Tom may be one of the few that has taken apart a FWD transmission.

Ok, as far as changing the constants in the TCU for the different diff ratios, wouldn't a simpler way be to change the tcu along with the gearbox. I've been wondering why the tcu isn't normally changed anyway.

Also, I'm curious: why would Subaru use all the different layouts for the speed sensors in the different markets. Doesn't seem cost-effective for them to have done that. So why did they?
