Thumbs down A/C fan blower running at only two speeds

Hi all,

I recently did r134a retrofit on my svx by flushing all the hoses, removing cooling unit (evaporator unit) and replacing the seals in it. Once I put back everything, I recharged and it seems to be working fine except my blower motor doesnt change to Lo-Med-Hi settings. The only change I can see when I change between those settings is from Med-Hi (I can hear a relay clicking in this case, which I believe is the high speed relay on blower motor), but no change from Lo-Med or Med-Lo. When I ran the diagnostics test, it is giving me error code 13 and 14 which is sunload sensor circuit open/short and evaporator sensor circuit open/short. I dont understand why I get error 13 since I never touched sunload sensor.
Coming to evap sensor, it says the sensor is located below fan blower motor which I think is located above cooling unit and if I have to test it, I need to take out the cooling unit as its not accessible from bottom and this includes removing refrigerant .
Any ideas / suggestions.

thanks,

If you're in the shade or garage when running the codes you can get a code 13.

I also got a code 14 and you have to remove the refrigerant, tear out the glovebox and everything behind it, tear out the evaporator core, change sensor which is about $120.

Well, that sucks. Anyways a/c is working fine for now. Do you think the blower problem is related to this?

Just a thought but normally on any other cars i have worked on that have that problem the blower motor resistor is the culprit. However the resistor typically goes because the blower motor is pulling more current than it should trying to work the way it should but while this is occurring the resistor gets more power than it should taking out the resistor. Just a though. Prob. easy to get to and might be able to test the resistance of it if you find the specs. Just a thought. Good luck with your search. Ultimately its up to you if you want to waste your nice fresh freon and the time to pull the evap back out and hope that the sensor is your problem or you can enjoy the ac on high!

Thanks for the info. I am not gonna remove freon before doing the general system checks (which includes tests that you are talking about) mentioned in the service manual. If I can't get it right after all that, then as the last option, I will remove freon and take out the sensor.

Hey Pav, long time bro, left you a mess the other day

H-bday again bro.

Try to locate that sensor used if you can and keep it aside just in case...
