I'm back! Sort of!
Hi to those that know me from my SVX owning days before Iwent to the dark side and the Skyline! I have kept dropping in every now andagain to see what was going on. See the odd SVX every now and then - most recent about 6 weeks ago near Warwick - Claret colour, and it wasn't Phil as I saw him a couple of days later and had confirmation.
I've sort of come back to the fold with a GTB that I got a few weeks back. Lot of learning to do on where to get all the bits from. Hope to muscle in on one of your events when I can - and if I'm frogiven for my transgression! |

Hey Tony
Great to see you back, anytime! What sort of a SVX is a GTB? Am I missing something here? Post up some pictures. Joe

Re: I'm back! Sort of!
Hi Joe,
Great to hear from you. Not quite as svelte as an SVX, but it does the job! It's a JDM 2004, 2 litre twin scroll turbo, with tiptronic. I tried the 3 litre (trying to be 'true' to the SVX), which was as smooth as the SVX engine, but didn't have the get-up-and-go that the Skyline had. Choice made!! |

Re: I'm back! Sort of!
Hi Tony
I had two of those wagons a few years ago. I had a '97 and a '98 I think. They were both twin turbo. I ran the silver one for a long time, and it was an excellent car. It was 4EAT like the SVX, but much lower geared. It pulled like a good thing. Your twin scroll should be a major improvement I would expect. The twin turbo concept was interesting and pretty good, but over complex. The silver car was utterly reliable and entertaining to drive, although I would have liked better brakes. The only real failing it had was the propensity for not bettering 20 or 22 mpg, unless on a long run. You pay for your pleasures. What hp is yours rated at, and what does it return in mpg running around? Joe.

Re: I'm back! Sort of!
It is definitely not as economical as the Skyline, I know that!! But it is easier to keep on the road - I would have been through a hedge backward numerous times if I had (tried!) cornered like the Subaru does. And the ride is much more supple, despite the lower profile tyres.
It's 280bhp with the 5EAT - I was put off the TT due to the 'Valley of Death' between the two turbos boost. The brakes aren't the best - like the Skyline, which I uprated using Red Stuff pads which transformed it - so will do the same when the pads need changing I have been fairly light footed whilst I get used to it and has generally returned 24 mpg on mixed A roads and driving into the office in Birmingham. On a run to Southampton over the weekend, with a bit of playing, it did over 28mpg! The key with this one seems to be to use 'sport mode' and the tiptronic - it responds better than kickdown and you don't have to bury your right foot to make it go! |

Re: I'm back! Sort of!
That about sounds what I would expect Tony.
I like the idea of the 5EAT. Does it have shift buttons on the wheel? Just yesterday I noticed that Subaru in Japan are now selling the Exiga http://www.subaru.jp/exiga/exiga/ show car. In essence this is tarted up Leggy estate, but a lovely car. Click on the bottom left link, you can see the specs. Only the 2.0GT gets the 5EAT, the others get the 4EAT. I notice none have the steering controls, although the last model Legacy before yours had them. I have a 4 speed Invecs/S tiptronic on my RVR [see sig] and I agree with you. It is better if you manually do the change. It learns your driving style [the one I have] and if you have been driving steady all day it is sluggish to downshift. If you hammer it, then it gets as mental as you want. . However, manual mode is smooth and easy to work if I am not being lazy. Since you have been away we have developed a Power switch for the USA gearbox that will let them keep Power mode on all the time like you can in the JDM car. More interesting still Phil has developed software that can do the same for the UK gearbox. He has updated the software in a gearbox computer for me. Unfortunately I am currently missing 4 [top gear] range on the gearbox in my car, so I have not been able to install the TCU and try it out. When I have a good gearboxbox installed I'm looking forward to seeing what improvement it makes. That will probably be next summer. I'm taking the car off the road for the winter. This is partly because road tax here is €1400 for the SVX. Saving 6 months of that is worthwhile. Joe
