5spd Transmission Question
Ok im sure this question has been answered somewhere but i cant seem to find it.
Why is everyone suggesting to use newer transmissions? Is there any reason why i shouldn't use an older one? |

A newer 5spd vs and older model 5spd? Need more details! 5spd vs an auto is because some of the autos can be problematic or less problematic than the 5spd. Also, 5 spd is an upgrade performance wise.

Well ok the full story is i want to upgrade to a 5spd for performance and just a fun thing to play with. I wanna know if there is any disadvantages in the older transmissions like not being able to hold up to power as well or other related mechanical problems. I think i can get an older transmission for next to nothing from my friend and by older i mean some where in the 90s.

00' and up 5mt's are a little stronger with better synchros than the older models. These are for non-turbo cars.. Turbo 5mt's from 02' - 03' were a bit problematic so the gears were beefed up for the 04's and up. These are the best transmissions to haul all the weight the SVX has to offer as well as hold the torque. tom |

I've run older 5-speeds in both the 5-speed SVXs I've built, and had no trouble with them.....
But I drive like a sane person, and don't do clutch dumps, or beat the crap out of it....but I do get on it once in a while The newer ones are a little tougher....but depending on your budget, an older one does OK too.
