Question What should I expect to get for my '92?

Hey all...I'm thinking of selling my '92 LS with 135k on it and bad tranny. Also needs new rad and brakes. It's nice outside with a few dings and a minor surface rust spot on pass door...oh it's been repainted too. Has stock rims and tires are on there way out. It runs nicely but probably needs tune-up. Bottom line...I love this car but don't have the funds to fix all the problems. It's been sitting for the last year and I'd hate to see it get worse. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Mark
p.s. I'm very depressed by the thought of selling after only 2 yrs.

The price for these cars is very low if they need work like yours does. There are some members who will buy it and then put a 5 or 6 speed MT in it. I would guess that it is worth $1,000 to $1,500 unless there was some real reason that it would be worth more. It would be much easier to sell if it was a running car. It probably would only go for $2,000 to $2,500 if it was. I am sorry if it doesn't sound very good, but I think that is realistic. Good luck.

Last summer I bought a '92 with bad paint, crummy tires and a host of minor ailments, but it's also stout, clean, tight, and leak-and-rust-free, not to mention (knock on wood) reliable. I paid $1800. Not what you wanted to hear, but that should give you some idea.

A year and a half ago I paid $900 at an auction for a claret '92 LS-L in good condition with 102K miles and a bad tranny which turned out to be just a cracked front diff. Six weeks ago I paid $800 for a clean silver '92 LS-L with a busted timing belt and some hesitation in the tranny (seals going bad). I did the timing belt over the weekend and the engine runs quite well.

Two years ago, I paid $2k for my first '92 LS-L pearly with 158k which ran and drove but had a bad head gasket, unknown to me. The point being that a running, driving car will always get more than one that has to be towed away.

Bad tranny? Mmm...like earl said, probly between 1000 and 1500. If the repaint was done really well, you could get mabey 1750-2000...but if it was done poorly revert back to original figure

Have you considered fixing it? Transmissions arent as expensive as you may think, so long as you have the tools / time to replace it yourself. I just paid 250$ for a (Very very new) 4.11 trans to swap into mine. I could do the swap myself, but due to time constraints Im having my friend TomsSVX do the work
(Earl, you WILL drive this to reading if we have anything to do with it!)

I paid 1000 for my 92 claret with a good engine but bad tranny. and the paint was bad, and the tires were mismatched. so you could probably get anywhere form 12-18 hundred for the car.

1,000 bucks for a 94 (150k) with a bad tranny and wheel bearings.

Just to give you an idea.

Put a (or have someone do it) 5mt in it and sell it. I've noticed that manual SVXs go for more on ebay.

They had better go for more. That will cost a few bucks to do. I don't think you would ever get your money out of it for that conversion.

There were two manual swap SVXs that I watched sell for about 4000 and maybe a little bit more awhile back. I don't know how much money those people put into the cars. I was just going by what I saw on ebay.

Thanks for ALL the feedback!

Thanks to ALL who have given me feedback on this question. I see now there are alot of variables and different experiences within the community. My heart aches just thinking of selling so I may consider tranny swap. What do I need to look for if I want to stick with AT? How much should I expect to pay? Oh...and if I can't do it myself what might a shop charge me? Thanks again!
Mark

If I remember right, it is about $2,500 for a rebuilt tranny. Good luck.

haha, same question, but lets say the tranny is fine, rebuilt recently, brakes are new, rad is good, no rust whatsoever, no major dings, and new tires with lotsa tread, plus wheel bearings just done. 140k miles. Probably could get around $3500, right?
