Dash Lights Out
Last Thurs morn., upon starting my '92 LSL to go to work, I noticed that the dash lights for the speedo, odo, gas gage and temp gage were out. All other lights in the main dash pod work fine. When I got to work I also noted that the push button key fob did not work. I think both problems are related. this weekend I checked the fuses for the dash and they are a-ok. I should check all fuses. I will do that soon because getting to the inside fuse box is challenging for a fat guy like me.
Any suggestions? Larry III PS: Don't say lose weight. |

Larry,
I've got the schematics for the combination meter at home, I could e-mail them to you tonight, if you think that would help. My first thought would be to check that darned connection in those vanity mirrors and make sure it's not shorting. That little gremlin has caused problems as small as slightly dimming lights, to full meltdowns. Did you check fuse #9 for "illumination brightness control?"

My vanity mirror light has been out since I bought the car but the passenger side works fine. I did not check fuse #9. But this weekend I will check all fuses systematically. Larry |

Most likely not the fuse (but check anyway). Most likely the wire that runs through the hinge to the roof of the car has broken.
Mine did that twice. I spliced and soldered a new piece of wire in there (kept the original connector) and used shrink tubing on top. Since it ended up thicker than the original, I had a difficult time threading it back through and "making" it fit. It has been fine for several years now. Quote:

Simply drive the '92 during the day, & drive the '97 at night.
Glad to be of assistance. Ron.

To checkout the visor, remove the screws and undo the connector about a 5 minute job. If the light hasn't worked the wire is most likely broken and now maybe it has shorted.

Nope. I've been really busy. I spent most of today coordinating paratransport for my mom-in-law from a nursing home to a radiological diagnostic center. I left the house at 5:30 AM andI just got home. God I wish I could just go to work every day.
