Driver's Side Window CRUNCH!
So I was heading into work this morning...
Had rolled down the window for some fresh air, determined it was a bit chilly for this particular ritual and started to roll it back up... At which point I heard this horrendous <CRUNCH!>... It sounded a lot like a large rock hitting the windshield, but it came from my left... I noticed that the window wasn't all the way up, so I hit the switch... Nothing... I turned down the stereo... I could hear the motor running to both ends of it's travel when manipulating the switch, but the window didn't budge. Then I pushed, lightly, on it to see if it was stuck.. At this point it dropped completely into the door... Never to rise again. Any suggestions on what this might be?

had this happen in my acura legend... same thing almost... theres a plastic bracket on the bottom of the window that most likely broke off, and if its anything like my acura you'll have to replace the window and not just the bracket thing cause they're molded together somehow... start searchin the junkyard
i dont think the actual replacement will be hard, but depending on your sources i bet the glass could be expensive... i'm pretty much an svx newb though, having it for 2 days total now |

Thanks for the quick response... If that is the case, I've found the glass locally for $75.00. We'll see when I take her in for a a full diagnostic on Thursday.

This is one of the more common SVX woes. I'm pretty sure that the clip can be replaced without replacing the glass. Check the "how-to" locker for instructions on replacing the clip.

I didn't even think before I posted to look for this previously. I was just frustrated about the fact that Kitten is sitting in the American Family parking garage with the window open. The search feature is my friend!

When I got my car the window motor was shot. Until I was able to get a new motor I held the glass up with plumbers straps (thin/flexible metal band with holes drilled every 1/2" or so, it comes rolled up and is used to hang pipes from joists).
With the door trim off, you'll be able to see the clip that is probably broken that you'll be reading about when you search. You will probably also find that you can move the glass up/down manually. there are a few bolts holding the glass to the mechanism. Remove one bolt at a time and attach a 6"-10" section of strapping to that point with the strapping pointing up. Then with assistance move the glass into the closed position, the straps should poke up between the glass and the inside door frame. When the glass is completely closed use pliars to bend the strap around the metal door frame. And cut off the extra stapping. You can then re-install your door trim and have a closed window untill the proper parts get here.

The parts name is a sleeve lock clip or sleeve lock regualtor, it's an easy fix (if that's all thats wrong). Part is about $12 or so
Here's a Link to the thread on the fix

This'll be the first repair job I've ever performed on my SVX... Wish me luck!

No problem,
It's an easy repair, shouldn't take any time at all, coincedently, it was also the first repair I did on mine (and if I can do it, anyone can )
