kumho 712 opinion

How are these, searches on the message board brought out only one slighlty negative opinion.

The tread life rating seems pretty big, 340?

I would spring for the yokohamas avs dbs, but with all the other costs of mine springing up, and autox, id just be wasting them

I had Kumho 712's on my Legacy GT for a while, before I bought 17" wheels and tires. I loved them. Excellent dry and wet traction. I never drove them in the snow, but the guys over on the i-Club (Subaru guys) pretty much say they stink in the snow. Thanks for the link! I found a place in LA that seems to have them for 420 installed and balanced.

Im still not sure how you guys buy off tirerack. Do you send them to the shop?

They just ship them right to your house, or wherever you tell them to. Maybe call around first and find out who would mount them for you. Some places don't care, and some places won't touch them with a ten-foot pole if you didn't buy from them. I got mine mounted for around $50 ($15 per wheel, plus tax), at a reputable statewide chain. They even mounted the wheel weights on the backside of the wheel so they wouldn't show, which is a nice little touch.

I have the Kuhmo's in the stock size on my SVX right now. They are awesome. Great dry traction, excellent wet traction too. I highly recommend them.

I put 17" Enkei wheels with the Kuhmo's. Not a lot of mileage so far but very happy with them. I doubt they would do very well at all in the snow due to fact they are summer tires, not all season. I will post as the testing continues..

Well just decided to go for it today, got the 16 inch 225/50 kumho VRs for 410 out the door

My next purchase will be through tirerack, but i didnt want the hassle of coordinating shipment with a shop

THey didnt have the Wr rated ones, but I guess I gain in tread life!


I asked them to put the balancing weights on the inside(for asthetics), but they though it was better if they were on both in and outside wheel wall.

Any comments on this? ( decided mechanics know best, and my rims werent in the greatest shape anyway)

Yeah, I think it's easier for them to get a better balance if they can use both sides as needed. I put mine on a 98 Legacy with only 20,000 miles on it, so maybe they could get by with it. I suppose if you had more miles, and pothole abuse, it may not be possible to balance them using just the backside of the wheel.

I have to agree with Rich on this one. While looking better without weights on the outside of an aluminum wheel, you will achive a better balance buy having them on both sides.
