Front plate bracket held on with....

Can anyone tell me what kind of device is used to hold the US front plate braket onto the bumper? I've had the bracket for about a year now and I'm finally motivated to put it on. I just don't have anything to fasten it to the car with.

I was thinking some sort of plastic fastener with tabs that extend as you screw something into it. Similar to the plastic clips that hold the engine cover on, but would need to be more sturdy. Any ideas where to get something that would work?

The factory front licence plate bracket uses 6mm shouldered bolts, that are 20mm long, like these...

I could be mistaken, but the holes in my bumper don't seem to be threaded at any point. Going to check now....

There is nothing threaded behind those holes. There is a plastic-looking block behind the holes that maybe those screws could be drilled into. Is that what has to be done?

I bought the car in PA and if I recall the CarFax properly, it spent its entire life there. PA has no front plate, so perhaps no threads ever made for a plate holder?

Mine came from Quebec and has never had a front plate bracket. When I popped the plugs off the bumper there was threaded holes behind and I had no problems mounting the bracket.

Robricc,

I think you are looking too far into the hole....I noticed a white-ish plastic piece when I look directly into the hole..........Look to the edge of the holes and you will see about 3 or 4 threads worth of material. I had to order those 6mm screws...I almost used a sheet metal screw when I couldn't figure it out at first.

There are also two holes that mount to the bottom lip which go vertical....I believe subaru uses a rivet-screw for this....I still have to mount mine after I get the fasteners this weekend.

Okay, got my hardware for the front plate and everything fits fine, just as it shows on the subaru website.
