Rear wiper rejection...

My rear wiper was a bit worn, so I decided to replace it. This is the first time. So I punch everything into the little computer at the shop, get the wiper it tells me to get, go home to install.

The previous wiper used some sort of adaptor which attached to the metal shaft, with a nub sticking out the side that fit into a hole in the wiper. So the wiper sat just above the shaft, kinda parallel to it.

The new one doesn't have the little hole in the side. It's got the little spring-loaded clip that pops right into the metal arm. So this one's sitting between the arm and the glass. I comment on how that actually looks better than the previous arrangement.

So a few days later, I'm driving home from work. There's a bit of condensation on the back glass, so I decide to try out the new wiper. I turn the switch.

CLANG!

The arm scrapes across the glass [and I cringe as I recall the horror stories of glass repair costs] and returns to the rest position, the wiper forever lost to the black void of the night.

So, umm... how exactly does your rear wiper mount? Did I goof in trashing the little side-mount thingy with the old wiper?

hmm i dunno...i never use those attachments.

I usually just replace the rubber blade and not the arm.
