5 speed swap help
If I need to get the diff from the legacy. why do I need to use the rear end from the svx? can't i just use the one off the legacy and just bolt it up?

The SVX axles won't go into the Legacy housing - and even if you get Legacy axles, you then lose limited-slip.
IMO, The time/effort spent to swap differentials and swap axles is higher than a grind off of the little bumps in the Legacy housing and a ring gear swap. |

I think the biggest reason is that the SVX axles might be stronger and that Legacy LSD's are harder to find. I havn't tried it myself but I think some have talked about using Legacy axles in the SVX. I know Alex-um used the rear STI axels in his 6 speed swap so the reguler Legacy axles might work to. The only draw back could be that if you don't have a Legacy LSD that you would loose the rear LSD.

do the shafts to the wheels fit with no problem? i am assuming so because no one says different.
My tranny is a few bolts away from being out :then the fun begins. We had to chisel many of the bolts off... not fun. Found out i had a rebiult one the hard way. The reason I asked about the rear diff is I always had a loud thump from the rear diff on turns and on quick excelerations. It got worse with more people in the car. It was a loud thug thug thug and not the roar I hear people get when the bearings go. |

Doesn't sound like the diff itself, sounds more like 1 or more of the 4 bushings that seperate the diff from the car (and hold it in place) have gone; same thing happened to mine. I think I paid something like $300 including labor for 2 of them.
