PCV valve alternative: crow-less.

I was leaking oil. I figured the PCV would be a good place to start, as it's cheap and easily replaced. Everybody says you need a 19mm crow's foot wrench.

Problem is, the only set I found was $40. I sought a better solution.

Enter the flex-head gear wrench. KD Tools makes a 7pc set that includes a 19mm. It runs about $70 MSRP, but Sears had it for $60.

I failed to account for physics, of course. When you bend a wrench's head 90 degrees, applying torque becomes difficult. Much cursing and grunting ensued.

It worked, though.

Why pay more? I think I'll find more future applications for a versatile 7pc ratcheting box-end wrench set than a bag of wrench/socket bastard tools.

Just something to think about.

And a product example...

That pretty nice. Do you know if the head fits inside the intake hole? It would certianly go faster once it's loose with the gear wrench. I bought a 17mm crow foot from sears. How much for I don't remember. I think that bending the 17mm box wrench is the cheapest I've seen if you got a torch. Still not quick to remove it once it's loose. I think relocating the PVC is another option for LONG TERM owners.

Intake hole? It fits into the gap between the intakes, under the cover, if that's what you're asking...

I did. That was much of the inspiration for going with a box-head instead of the crows-foot.

To help turn the wrench you can use a vice-grip on it.

Hey, great idea! I'll just use these vise-grips conveniently located on the hood strut...
