Thanks for all of you support.
Dad passed away peacefully on Tuesday night surrounded by all of his family. We are, naturally upset, but not too bad as if he had lived any longer, it would have been in pain and discomfort. His 87 years were spent serving others, from his country in the 2nd world war to his grand children in more recent years. The happy memories will be with us for ever. We are holding a thanksgiving service on Tuesday, followed by the internment, about 250 people are expected, but more may arrive, we have hired a hotel suite for after the service so that anyone can join us for tea and coffee. Mourning clothes have been banned, so have wreaths, but bright flowers and cartoon waistcoats are welcome. The house has been full of joy (and a few tears) for the last few days. The family have been incredible over this time and we are now even closer. Thank you for listening to this and sharing this all with me. and sorry for killing this thread

My sincere condolences, Andy. I am thrilled to hear that you and your family are able to find joy at this time in your lives. While it is hard not to feel personal loss of someone who was so important in your life, it is good to find joy in their birth into the next phase. Our Pastor here refers to death as moving from the land of the dead to the land of the living. I think that is a wonderful way to view it and fits in perfectly with the philosophy I have held nearly all my life.
Find strength in your family to get you through your loss but celebrate your father's rebirth in the next "true" life. -Johnny
