Is there a steering committee set up for the event yet?

Re: It all starts here

It won't happen. John, who has the most desire to do this, hasn't posted on it since May. The community is dead. The car is dead. There is nothing left but for the millenials to buy these, rice them up and kill them. If there was any hope of keeping the car alive, I would put some money into mine. The engine and tranny are great. But the other parts are getting damn near impossible to find and the old experts have either moved on or are damn close to moving on. I will drive mine until it becomes undrivable and then tow it to a junk yard. I may have it crushed out of spite. I hope a cash for clunkers happens again, soon.

Me too, but I'd have to be a passenger/navigator or else arrive in an alien car.

OUCH! Sounds like I ripped off a very painful band aid. Heck, I leave this place for a few years and look what happens.

"The community is dead. The car is dead." Gosh...I hope not. I think, as you've pointed out "millennials" are the "new guard, " and, as such, have simply been drawn to their version of "community" i.e. facebook, twitter, instagram, et al. And, I know for a fact, many of them still refer to this site as the "be all and end all" of SVX wisdom. As I've logged on over the past few days, I've noticed that there will be HUNDREDS of "guests" viewing the site, but few members. Of course, I can still remember when "members" could be numbered with the fingers on one hand.

So....I reckon....where there's a will, there's a way. Perhaps, if we work in concert with the active "other" places SVXers hang out, we could generate some enthusiasm. I know time is now short, but... stranger things have happened.

Re: It all starts here

I think we have enough interest in this meet to make it happen, but no one has set a date. Did Larry have a planned date before he got ill?

Plant tours will be available during the entire month of May, therefore I suggest May 19-21 as a possible date for the meet. The roads should be clear of snow for those traveling from afar, and it will not be into the summer heat. This date can be moved forward or backwards in May if needed.

I am not part of an official planning commttee, (there is no commttee) so this is just an suggestion at this point. I hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it.

Re: It all starts here

I would probably be in for the Lafayette location if we had a good amount committed to going.

Re: It all starts here

I definitely prefer the Indiana location over Jersey.....I can't even imagine what a PITA it would be to lead a drive thru Jersey in a group of cars...

I am in for Indiana but, if it is not feasible, has anyone considered that a Dragon meet might be interesting? Not certain if it would simply be too far for most, but driving the Tail of the Dragon would be great, time-of-year depending.... No matter, I'm looking forward to going wherever it is!

Re: It all starts here

Again I am not on a committee but would like to see the Indiana meet happen.

After speaking to John today, we came up with a date that may work for most of us. The first weekend in May, is the new suggested date; May 5-7 2017. If this date is good please let us know, also let us know if you have issues with the date.

The two weeks of April or after the second half of June.
