Broken is good...

...sorta. :P

Despite my declarations that my SVX is a reliable, dependable car, I have to admit that it's been broken a lot this year. It's probably stayed broken as much as it has because I have another car to drive. If the SVX were still my daily driver, I'd probably fix stuff more quickly.

Whether it's due more to being in storage or to being broken, the SVX hasn't been out too much this year. So, after two years of putting on the usual 1k+ miles a month, I have only put on 3,000 miles this year.

Not bad.

Pretty soon it'll go into storage for the winter again, so I drove it to work this morning. It skipped 2nd gear the whole way, but I still enjoyed the drive, probably one of the last before the snow flies.

Nick,

I don't understand people who store the SVX in winter. I can understand if you store your RWD car but SVX can handle the snow and are meant to be driven. Am I just getting it wrong?

If I had my way, I would store my svx in the winter... but it is just WAYYYY too fun to drive in bad weather. I could never force myself to do it.

I agree that winter brings about conditions which the SVX was built to handle. But it also means salt. And salt is bad. Here in MI, winter also means horrible car-swallowing pot-holes opening up.

I love driving the SVX in the winter. But my dedication to keeping this car for a long, long time is stronger.

i bought my SVX to replace the RWD winter Garage Queen and the beater. road salt is a pain, but i take it to the pay-n-spray once a week in the winter and blast it real good, especially the underside.

Nick,

I could've sworn it wasn't that long ago when you were anxiously waiting for good weather days in the spring to bring the car out...

As much as I want to keep the car forever, an older gentleman (neighbour) told me his story about once owning a early generation Alfa Romeo Spyder, with extremely low mileage and showroom condition. He said his biggest regret was not driving and enjoying that car more, as he said this after some dufus drove into his car, totalling it.

Or do what Randy did, and get two.
