Northwest Meet: bring your driving gloves
Well the last couple days I've been out driving Snohomish County backroads, getting lost and trying to plot a good scenic route for next Saturday. Of course I started with Mapquest and then went from there. Two things to look forward to for those planning to come. (or those on the fence)
1) There will be some great scenery, showcasing the diversity of the area. Thick evergreen forests, mountain views (weather permitting), quaint towns, farms, and Puget Sound waterfront. About the only part of the county we will not be exploring first hand will be I-5 corridor where the larger cities are, and the mountains (already did that in August). 2) There will be some great driving worthy of the SVX. At least from my point of view, as I created and tested the route. Towards the beginning there is a three mile stretch with no straight piece of roadway. Then the rest of the route is a bit more tame, but always on less used backroads and highways with not much traffic, at least around 2-3:00 on a weekday there wasn't. Jim - Not sure at what time you were going to try to join up with us, but if I know you, you are not going to want to miss the first part of the route.

Sounds great Troy. What time and where are we going to meet. Just thought it should be mentioned here.

An excert from the meet flyer:
"This meet and driving tour promises to be a great experience for SVX owners and enthusiasts. Not only will there be lots of opportunity to “talk shop” with other owners, there will be hours of true “grand touring” style driving – the type of driving the SVX was designed for. As an added bonus, you will see some of the most beautiful scenery of rural Snohomish County. We’ll meet in the historic town of Snohomish, antique capital of the Northwest. Heading out of town on Highway 2, the Cascade Mountains will be in full view on a clear day as we pass dairy farms and grazing cattle. As we enter the city of Monroe, we will take a sharp turn to the north and embark on some of the most twisting and turning roads the county has to offer. We will take a quick break at Lake Roesiger, a quiet rural lake. From there we will continue north to the town of Granite Falls, nestled in the foothills of the Cascades and famous for logging. Continuing northwest on more back roads, we will reach downtown Arlington, a typical “Small Town USA” type main street. We will break for lunch here. Next we will head due west, through the very small community of Silvana, many types of farms, and on to Stanwood. Stanwood is known for its high Scandinavian population and quaint theme shops to that effect. We will stop for a break for those that want to explore, find dessert at the Scandia Bakery, or just talk cars. Leaving Stanwood we will break out onto the open fields and see the Puget Sound for the first time. We will head south along Port Susan until we reach Kayak Point. Here we can drive down to the waterfront for some great pictures of the cars and a beautiful view of Puget Sound. The last leg of our journey continues south through the Tulalip Indian Reservation with occasional views of the Sound and even the city of Everett in the distance. We will end in Marysville next to the Tulalip Casino. From here there is direct access to I-5 heading north and south."
