Winter Driving Newspaper Supplement

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this-

The local St. Paul newspaper put a special 'Winter Survival' supplement in yesterday's edition, titled 'Driving in a Winter Wonderland'. A nice fluff piece for all the local car dealers to advertise in for their monster SUV's. I figured I'd take a peek and see what they had to say about Subaru; after all, I've been driving them since 1981 and our '95 Outback was one of the original 'crossover' vehicles (sport utility wagon).....

Front page article- 'Masters of Winter Driving:'- 'Sport Utility Vehicles, Great when the going gets tough, great when the going is easy'......... I flip to the 'midsize SUV's' to see what they say about Outbacks or Foresters, hmmmmmm...... nothing there.... (they must be calling them 'compact's.....

Next is 'Large SUV's' (obviously not gonna be in there....... )

OK- here's the "Compact SUV' section- here's a blurb on my wife's new car- a Land Rover Freelander..... (yeah, I know she's now a heretic..... )..... NO SUBARU's!? What's going on.... here's a Subaru dealer ad..... (it's not like anybody from Subaru didn't spend any ad money with them..... )

I flip through the 'Winter Driving Tips' fluff piece and then through the 'Truck' section.... Gee, here's a microscopic mention of the Subaru Baja, '-All new in 2003.' .....That's it!!??

I call up the gal on the paper that 'wrote' the section and asked where the Subaru's were referenced- "Just a minute....... (pause)..... You know,..... you're right...... (I could hear the flushed face in her voice in the telephone) I guess we're going to have to make up for it with some extra copy in the Auto Show edition when it comes out............. "

I guess we just don't get any respect.....
