Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

New timing belt and water pump along with all the pulleys, tensioner and seals.
A/C recharged and replaced V belt.
Replaced spark plugs.

Runs much smoother now. It was time 189,500 km.

I must say the old timing belt and other old parts look like new.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Actually did all this in the last quarter of 2020. Replaced my engine with a zero miles engine I had, replaced lower front ball joints, new shocks at all 4 corners, and replaced rear differential bushings. All done using OE parts.
Now trying to decide if this non-mechanic wants to tackle rebuilding my old engine in my spare time just to see if I can do it and perhaps learn something new.

Off with the winter wheels & on with the summer's. Just looked a the forecast though and it looks like some snow on the weekend.

Think I'll have to wait a few days before the spring detailing.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I took the SVX out of it's winter nest. It started like I drove it yesterday even though it's been over 4 months.
It's been over 20 C here for a while. Very nice for April.

Replaced the metal rear brake lines. What a pain in the butt that was! Back on the road. 307k and starting to count up again.

Maybe in the BRZ. At 307k I dont think the SVX is up for all those curves!
I will have to look into it. Kim and I could relive our pre-children freedom if we can convince the in laws to babysit for a weekend!

It'd be good to see you all again, even in the BRZ

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

After a few seasons I figured I'd get my tires re-balanced. For the first time I decided to have them "Road Force" balanced rather than the usual static balance.

All I can say is WOW! what a difference. I didn't really have much indication of an out of balance situation, but now the ride is so smooth it's amazing.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Didn't do this today, but within the month or so.

Wash (two buckets method, etc), clay, seal, wax

Looks great considering the age. The peeling clear on the rear garnishes was reduced in appearance with the sealant which was a great surprise.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Had a torn front outside axle boot replaced as well as front sway bar link.

Here's a weird one though. I ordered an OEM boot from the local Subaru dealer and it didn't fit! Way too small. Ended up using an after market universal fit one from Doorman.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Bought new winter tires ( for the few times I actually drive in winter ). Also got alignment done so except for the annual Rust Check application I'm ready for the bad weather.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Put the SVX back on the road after the winter. I just read my post from last year, 8 posts up. 1 day earlier this year. I should have waited the extra day, there was salt on the road and today it is washed away.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Today delivered to my patient consulting mechanic, Riley Pettigrew, Parts & Service Advisor - Stratford Subaru, this precious piece of Unobtainium for my 1994 Emerald LSi/WRX 5-speed swapped SVX, that shredded the power steering/alternater belt and broke the tensioner bracket in February, obtained from good guy Munish Selhi of Edmonton last Friday, after a long and circuitous search that also almost involved an SVX Parts Scammer goes by the name JAY SMITH (who is a shameless wretch to beware of).
Cleaned up all shiny real good.
Confidently hopefull to be juggling shifts again by week's end.

By happenstance, a pic of what this bracket supports. Image courtousy of Luigi on SVX NATION.
