Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

i think it can be saved for sure. low miles, minimal rust, and straight body are a plus. good luck. hopefully the tranny has some life left.

Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

First thing to do is power wash that thing and get a good look at what's under that dirt. make a list of the mising bits (the wiring in particular) and possibly get the bare minimum of parts to make the car start and drive (Even if you need to pull a few quick parts from your working car)
The reason behind this is to get the car to start so you can drive it, even just around your yard, to check for obvious problems. (Trans fail, bad diff, engine broken)
If the trans works, put it in your good car, and let the "parts car" be a back burner restoration. clean what needs to be ceaned, wait around for good deals and gradually replace what's missing, and when you have time or parts fix what's broken. You'll get quite a bit of satisfaction saving it rather than junking it and thinking you might have been able to fix it. <---Advice given by a guy who's taken both of those routes before

That looks like it's ready to be parted out to me.

Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

UPDATE:

Well, spent 4 hours getting the interior out today to save what can be saved before the snowstorm tonight. The front seats, center console, interior door panels and upper part of back seat seam like they should clean up alright. The carpet was full of soda spill stains so I junked that. The side and top pieces to the inside of the trunk are still good, the whole frame is very solid but I will need to get replacement tracks for the pwr drivers seat as they were rusted.

As for the wiring, I found a bunch of wiring looms that were not connected to anything at all near the fuse box on the driver's kick panel. I'm guessing this was done after the electric problems in search of the cause.

Its Just Eric: In order to figure out what shape the trans is in, I will be pulling it out of this car and into my DD after the weather is cooperative again-If it works then thats where it will stay and my current bad transmission will go into this car as I know it works, just not the high gears. And eventually later on, I will swap motors as well to see if there are any problems with this one.

I know that so many out there would part out and scrap upon sight of something this horrific but the paint is not bad-dull yes, but no gouges or deep scratches and very little rust so I feel that I should give this girl one more chance at a new life.
I know that I will never ever get enough money out of this to make up for the money and time I will put into it even if I get it driveable, but that is not what's important to me. I am patient enough to wait for a deal on a bunch of parts rather than buying one part at a time. This process may stretch out for quite awhile but once I get my mind set on something, I finish it, period. I have a lot of time on my hands and I don't see any better way to spend it.

I have given up on a couple cars in the past and still think to this day of what could've been...

Not many of the new members know how many cars you drove into the garage to be parted out. (Sorry, the comment had to be illuminated somewhat.)

I've saved a few rough ones. I know what goes into it, and that it can be done.

Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

I just fully realized how horrible my Engrish is on my thread title, oops.

Oh, just thought I'd add that I found over $10 in oxidized coins

Sorry. I must have missed that.

Nate,

Keep picking up those coins. You have already earned more of a return than all of the investors on Wall St today just did!

Actually, i truly think it's ready to be parted out. Look at it. But that doesn't mean I think that all that i've parted in the past were ready to be parted.

The comment, though, was meant to be in a "joking tone" since i've parted so many in the past.

Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

This is where I differ. Id check the fluids, add a quart of oil and a gallon of fresh gas, hook up a battery and try turning it over.

You may be right. It looks terrible right now. Like I said though, it is pretty low mileage, I do have almost all of the parts. The only real question is if I can find the electrical/wiring problem. I was not given any info on any of the symptoms it had. Just that it was a "kid" that owned it before and messed it up. Right now all I am putting into this car is time. Parting it out doesn't make sense to me other than swapping out the trans/engine which still leaves it able to be brought back. There is potential here, look at the good pic I posted. That was right before it was put in a barn and parts began to be pulled off her.

Maybe I am just a dedicated person and hope to always have an SVX til the day I die.

The tranny fluid is still pink and doesn't smell burnt. The oil is dark, but I've seen worse and it is right at the full line. Haven't checked the diff fluid yet. It does need a starter as it was pulled off already and there is no MAF or filter box. Also needs a new flexplate which I have and plan on doing when I swap the transmissions over.

Here are a couple of "tub" pics and an engine pic

I do have the intake snorkel and alternator just not in there right now.

Just sadness. But maybe as a donor for transplants it could make a difference.
