I too have used the comma interchangeably, but now as i get older and am continually reading through legal briefs and opinions, the common tendency is to do without the extra comma, so I just tend to follow that example.

I thought that was how everyone was supposed to use commas. That's how we learned in school. I wasn't aware of a different category of the uses. Learn something new every day I guess. What really boggles my mind, is how the hell did shelfy know about it?
