www.keylessride.com

That site sells remotes that are apparently compatible. For $40 I think I'll give it a try. They may not say 'SVX' on them, but that's a small price to pay if they work.
+2 for KeylessRide remote, I've had two of them since September and never had a problem. I think they're slightly sexier than the stock ones.

I'm surprised shelfy hasn't said it yet . . . Crazy Remotes!

Yeah, every Subaru I've owned, even the Justy, worked like that. So has every Toyota.

Anyway, the driver's side lock cylinder doesn't work on my car. It hasn't since the day I bought it. It's a family curse - my truck did the same thing, as did an old Camry my mom had.

Sure, I could fix the lock. But I'd rather just keep using the remote.

i remember my parent's cars (1971 toyota corolla and 1980 datsun 210) working this way and i think my first car (1987 hyundai excel) worked that way as well. my second car (1987 chevrolet nova) locked without holding up the handle; it was the only car i've ever been locked-out . my third car (1993 geo prizm) had power door locks so i was in the habit of hitting the lock button before shutting the door and didn't have to hold up the handle in teh svx. must be why i hadn't thought of holding up the handle. will it lock both doors holding up the passenger-side handle?

No I think only the driver's side locks all the doors when you hold the handle up. If you do the passenger side I want to say it only does that side.

My legacy lock cylinder failed 3 times in 5 years...What a B**ch to replace it and try to get the little spring clip back into place to hold the lock.

Now when I was a kid, my father had a brat...(not me, the vehicle...lol). Not sure if the doors locked with the handle up on that.
