New Legacy pics (56k, go make a sammich)

if you haven't seen it already. no urinal grille for the new Leggy! looks like the "goatse-look" front end on the current Imprezas may be officially dead.

Thumbs up

The new Legacy looks sweet. It would be nice if the design of the JDM 2.0GT Spec B carried over to the US version! The SI-Drive also looks like it'll be a cool gizmo to play with!

I'll wait till the all new '08 Impreza platform comes out before deciding the direction of my next car purchase in 3 years. I'm definitely leaning towards serious performance WITH compromises in everyday utility. If I can swing the payments, the Nissan GT-R will be mine!!! If not, the '08+ STI (which is supposed to make 340+hp and have a multi-link rear suspension - no more McPherson struts!!!) is starting to sing a sweet song to me...

i'm thinking the GT-R will be at least $60k - too much to spend on a car for me. i will be looking at a future STi (if it has a SMG gearbox), or the EVO. who knows, maybe when i'm ready a Legacy STi will be available.

The interior and instrument/control layout is near perfection.

I'm glad that urinal grille didn't catch on.

I'm anticipating the new GT-R to be in the 60K+ range. I'm just hoping it won't be in the 75K+ range!

Changes/improvements I'd like to see in the next gen Impreza WRX STI...

...for me to buy one on the spot and forgoe the Nissan GT-R:
  • 340+bhp and 340+ft/lbs (under the new SAE standards)
  • Larger brake rotors f&r requiring a switch to 18" wheels (think Porsche Carrera sized 13" rotors)
  • Multi-link rear suspension
  • Larger sway bars front & rear (at least 25")
  • Adjustable sport-tuned suspension OR a true 'track ready' suspension (like the Lotus Elise)
  • 245 sized summer tires
  • Better front bucket seats
  • None of that nasty blue carpet & seat upholstery
  • Curb weight in the 3,200-3,250lb range
  • A much larger stock turbo (ditch IHI turbos and go for TD06 20G)
  • Lightweight aluminum roof (like the Evo MR)
  • A price in the 35-36K range tops!
  • A Nurburgring lap time under 8 minutes! (not a must have, but a like to have!)

you could possibly buy two STi's for the the price of a GT-R - much of your list can be achieved with some aftermarket stuff with a current STi.

i know i'd rather have a better house than have $60k+ wrapped up in one car, but that's just me.

I agree that 60K+ wrapped up into one car is alot, but I'm not going to get it if I have to stretch my finances too far.

While all of that can be achieved with aftermarket upgrades, I'd like it to come stock so that the STI will be more competitive in SCCA autoX classes. For e.g. in the BSP class (B street prepared) a new rule for 2006 bumps STIs and Evos into this class (previously in ESP) but allows for unlimited boost with the factory turbo. The STI is at a disadvantge here as the vf-39 is good for only 300-330whp with a protune (can't use alky/water injection), while the new Evo IX's can make close to 400whp on their TD05 16G's!!!

The more goodies that come stock, the better.

so you'd spend another $30,000 on a GT-R to be more competitive in parking lot timed races?

LOL! No, if I can afford it, I'd gladly spend 30K more to own my all-time dream car!

Sorry for the thread jack. A Legacy STI would be cool. I know the '07 LGT Spec B will have Si-Drive and 243hp (under the new SAE standard), but I've heard rumors that the next 'revision' of the Legacy model will get a bump in power to 280hp.
