Video Dashboard

It seems that someone has finally made a digital dashboard that is flexible and can process functions from the rest of the automobile to display as well as input in real-time. Here is a link to a video as well as small article and here is the company behind it. who seem to take a real liking to Deloreans, I wonder why. :P

Anyway I wonder if anyone here would want to upgrade their SVX's dashboard with this and add a voice command to make it actually like the 1989 Alcyone SVX concept car?

I couldn't hear the audio but why so much equipment? Was this done in the 80's?

It's just a prototype. If you were to package such a thing for a car, you'd build custom boards that would be much smaller than the breadboards he's using.

Honestly, I don't think it's all that impressive. I mean, I couldn't build it. But it just looks like a college project. Sort of neat, but lacking all the work that would go into making it really useful or appealing.

First of all, the man needs some help with interface design.

Ferrari are using color LCD panels on their instrument panels. (I'm sure others are now, too.) They don't replace the main dials - the speedometer and tachometer - which seems smart.

that's what i was thinking - looked like someone's senior class project from 10 years ago.

you gotta keep the speedo and tach as dials - old Corvette-style bargraphs and whatnot are just goofy-looking. the newer Ferrari instrument clusters are sweet:

Electrical engineering senior design project by a geek with rich parents.

It isn't marketable due to portability and system cross over. Also no guarantee it is a working system now. He's feeding it input. You can fake that, and I've seen students do it.

Most schools would give him an A on the design project though. He's got wayyyyyyy more than the hundred hours he speaks of in developing this.
