Radiator Cap

I'm looking to get a new radiator cap. I don't think mine is holding the correct pressure. I'm getting vapor/air in the coolant resevoir. I know this could be a cracked head gasket, also, but I have no sludge in the radiator and no cloudiness in the oil.

ANYWAY, regardless of the root cause, the radiator cap they have at the auto parts store for the SVX says "13 PSI" on it. Does anybody know if this is the same as stock? Thanks.

Both times my head gasket failed the failure was at a coolant site on the exhaust side. Coolant was always clean. No coolant got into the oil. All I got was exhaust gases leaking into the cooling system. I got a few hundred more miles out of her by cutting a groove in the gasket under the radiator cap so the excess gases would purge out the cap and into and through the coolant overflow before having a chance to overheat the coolant and blow that to the overflow tank.

Since it was the second failure, the guy I had fix it just opted for a used engine rather than the work to tear mine down again.

Just had my Headgaskets (and valve job while apart) done and symptoms identical to Clydesvx. Kept pushing coolant into overflow til it overflowed but no overheat as I was all over it, finding rad low but never close to dry. Previous experience with 2 Legacii led me to expect brown/oil in the coolant as well, but I've since learned differently. Prepare to drop some cash.

those are different symptoms than my deal. My rad has never been down below the top. Anyway, I'm not concerned about it. I'm picking up a second engine next weekend. It's only gotta last 1 more week. It's already lasted over 1 year this way, so I'm cool

Oh, Did I forget to mention the bubbles rising in the overflow, as well as in the rad when run with the cap off? Glad to hear you have a spare.
