CD Player Fix

For those whose CD player will not play a CD and insists on spitting the CD back out, try this...
  • Remove the radio/CD unit. Disconnect the CD player from the radio and take the CD player to a nice clean area as you are going to take some of it apart. Note there are some really good instuctions on how to remove the SVX radio/CD unit if you do a search.
  • Grab a bunch of cotton swabs and some rubbing alcohol.
  • As you take the CD player apart, clean all of the solder connctions on the circuit boards with cotton swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol.
  • Only take the CD player apart enough that you are comfortable putting it back together. Once everything is as clean as new, put the whole thing back together and reinstall into the car.

One of my circuit boards looked like it had some Pepsi spilled on it. I have no idea what this was as I have had the car 10+ years and have never used the cd player as a cupholder. Once I cleaned up the 'Pepsi' and some of the other dirty areas, the CD player returned to working order. This was about a year ago.

I've got an inop SVX CD player packed-away in my garage... might give that a try sometime. Thanks for the tip.

My CD player is not stock and decided to do this today or yesterday. Whenever it was, it caught me off guard.

If I remember correctly, I did not touch the lens. I basically just cleaned the heck out of all the connections and boards.

Huh, maybe I'll give that a try. I liked my stock CD player just fine but it quit playing CDs and I haven't gotten around to replacing it. Thanks for the info.
