AWD problem

I think I brought this up in an earlier thread, but can't find it at the moment...

My AWD doesn't seem to be working properly (big problem taking off in the snow!). Took it to a dealer for diagnosis and what they came up with was "error code 11 was present in memory"--"Line pressure duty solenoid malfunction".

They sail more diagnostic time was needed....and that they needed to pull the tranny. Ouch!

Any other suggestions? All ears.

most probably your solenoid C failing....80 buck part from subaru parts.com

Do the rear wheels kick in at all or are your fronts just spinning?

They SEEM to kick in sometimes, but the fronts (or one front) will often spin for some time (seems to be mostly at low speed) without the rear kicking in.

Where is the Solenoid C located? I'd be happy to try that first before digging into the tranny to get at the duty soleniod!

All 3 solenoids are in the control assembly located above the transmission pan. I get them mixed up, but I'm almost certain sol C is one of the two solenoids you can get to by removing the pan without removing the transmission.

The C Solenoid is located in the rear section of the transmission. It can be removed without pulling the box. You need to buy the C Solenoid/transfer valve assemble, and a set of clutch plates. Fit the lot to ensure that it is fixed.

For reference: Code 11 = Solenoid A failure...nothing to do with AWD.

Usually it's caused by a failed resistor (between the battery and fender)

That's a trick question. You have to take the back of the tranny (extension) apart to get at the solenoid.

No, mine is the Euro epicyclic AWD, same place, same things, different look do a different job. If you look at the pic, you can see the Transfer valve position, and the clutch, they are the same, you don't have the gears.

Uh...just a hunch (and just my luck?)...is Soleniod A the one of the three that is the hardest to get at?

"A" is by far the easiest.

Ok...next monday we are pulling the back of the tranny out to check out the Soleniod C and the clutch it engages. We think that the transfer (to rear axle) clutch might be burned out. Will report back on success or failure.
