EGR Valve

Can anyone tell me where it is? I can not see it.

Is it under the intake runners?

look at the right (passenger side, US) rear of the engine, under the rippled part of the plastic tube going to the throttle body. Under there you will see three wire connectors, I think blue, green and white (for my 92 anyway). I believe just under those connectors is the EGR valve.

Purpose

E=Exhaust G=Gas R=Recirculation

Helps the engine warm up and help to reburn unburnt fuel...I think

blatantly stolen from the web (Google is your friend).

"The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system is used to reduce the amount of NOx created by the engine. It does this by diluting the air/fuel mixture with a small amount of inert gas (usually less than 10% of the total mixture); exhaust gas is used since it contains only a small amount of oxygen (and is readily available). Adding it has the effect of lowering the combustion temperature below the point at which nitrogen combines with oxygen to form NOx. When working properly, the EGR does not open when the engine is cold, at idle or WOT. A defective EGR can have a severe impact on the quality of idle."

EGR or NOT

I called a dealership today and was told that even though my "code" said my egr valve was sticking, it might be a Solenoid that sits next to it might be bad. I guess this solenoid controls the vacumm to the egr valve.... Does that make any since?

They also say.,...... that the hoses maybe clogged...instead of the egr valve.

Thoughts anyone?

Well if it has given a code, then is has to be electrical. As the computer can't check mechanical componets.

Harvey.
