Part Number help

Anyone know what the part # to this "filter" on top of the fuel canister? Why do some cars have this and other don't. I have a '94...? Is it another fuel filter?

That's the evaporative canister. ALL cars should have it, as part of the emissions control system.

Part #42035 in this diagram:

Actual part number: 42036PA010

Should this be replaced every so often then? Does fuel run through it all the time?

Significant Technical Input
There should only be fuel vapors from the tank stored inside the canister. The vapors are purged by the engine when it's running, as directed by the ECU. The piece you are looking at should last longer than the car.

You made my day! A part that will last longer than all of the others that I have been changing! At least that is one part I won't have to change.

According to the link that Randy provided us, that little filter would be 42084A (Valve 2 way part# 42084PA050)

The question still remains that not all the SVX's have that filter so why is that and when did it change?
