'93 SVX Confusion...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=31871

the VIN is over 750, the number we thought to be how many '93s were made...so does the VIN on that car mean there were over 1,000 made?

My VIN ends with 101254, so I don't see how this one raises any questions.

SOA's Manager of Distribution told me, through email, that 301 '93 25th Anniversary SVXs were built and shipped to the US. End of story.

I simply do not understand why we have to rehash this every month. Where did you get the number 750 from?

Of course they did, Mike.

Honestly, we don't know that the last three digits in the VIN tell us what number out of 301 our cars are. We don't even know what number they started with. Does anybody know how US VINs compare to European or Japanese VINs? Do VINs follow a world standard?

You might recall this thread, in which Scott Williams (then, of subaruparts.com) outlined some great info on the VIN number and production. Scott said:

"First, you will need to take the first part of your VIN and find the model info. Then you take the last six to find the month your SVX was produced. The number in the top colum is the last model made for that month. So here is how it works:

1. Body Number: Find the body number in the chart. It is the 2nd colum. "JF1CX353*PH" (first 11) lets us know that its a 1993 LS-L.
2. Seraial Number: "101060" (last 6) lets us know that it was produced in March of 1993. Also, we know that it was the 5th SVX produced in March.

The problem with this VIN is that it is that we do not have the .pdf for you, yet.

Thanks,

C. Scott Williams
SubaruParts.com"

He went on to give us these charts:

I don't know of anyone who has a 93 with the last 3 numbers larger than 300. Now that I say that, maybe someone will tell me that they have one.

I was under the impression that the last "1103" meant it was the 1,103rd SVX off the assembly line in 1993.

US and Canada may have the same VIN tags.

My understanding is that 101 103 means that it was the 103rd. I could be all wet, but I saw somewhere that the number followed the 101. That is what the numbers are that I use of mine anyway.
