Lightbulb EZ Pass Does NOT work in SVX!!??

I have done a few trips in my recently acquired SVX and when approaching EZ Pass toll gates, the EZ Pass does not register!

I have recently also received new EZ Passes, so I thought they could be defective. Last trip I brought three along!! None worked!!

Hmmmmmmmmm.. I just found on the EZ Pass website that the SVX has a special windshield that prevents the EZ Pass signal transmision!!

Has anyone else experience this??

Check it out!!

No, they wont work because of the metallic coating in the windshield. Try holding it out the sunroof when you go through the toll. That always works.

I am not sure if Ezpass has the plate mount. I got the Ipass plate mount for my car since windshield mount does not work.

Thumbs up

I frequently hop from car to car, and really do not want to use a front mounted one..... could get stolen too!

What about holding in out the driver's window as you approach the toll gates????

Learning something new every day with my SVX!!!

Thanks guys!!

I'm pretty sure its because Cell phones operate at a much higher frequency... thats just a guess.

has to do with the frequency of the radiation. like the grill in the window of a microwave. that grill acts like a solid wall or mirror to the microwaves. so the thin layer of metal in the windshield has the atoms spread apart enough to be a barrier to certain frequencies. have no idea what frequencies are blocked though - do radar detectors work in the SVX?

We have EZ Pass here in Ireland, but I have not signed up because I do not frequently go the toll route.

Educate me. These tags, are they powered up, wired to the battery?

If not, I have a suggestion for you. You should be able to try the tag behind the clear plastic of the centre grill. If it works from there, you are laughing, you can secure it where it can't be stolen.

John, Lee,

I would not expect the coating is frequency selective, being metallic, it is just attenuates radio waves.

Cellphones work because the more difficult it is to send or receive a signal, the more powerfully the amplifier puts out. So anyone who is paranoid about microwave radiation and cancer should right now sell the SVX Faraday Cage, or get connected to an external aerial!

Joe

PS Thought about getting a dual speed sensitive anti points thingy, but with the reduced range the SVX guarantees, it would only be worth doing with an external mount, possibly behind the centre grill as mentioned above.

EZ Pass does offer a plate mount device, I have one on my SVX, personally, how could you miss the part on the site where it states which cars need the plate mount device?

I have had my plate mount for 3 years now, NO thefts, and EZ pass takes a pic of your plates when you go through, if you notice it stolen they will replace it free of charge, well maybe not for shipping, but you get the idea.

ALSO, radar detectors DO work, but their range is limited due to the titanium coated windsheild...

I hear the phone ring thru the cassette deck before the phone rings.

I think my IQ has been going down since I got the phone. There it is another correlation. Phone>brain.

Since I just got the SVX in the winter I have no experience with summer driving. Whats it like driving the svx?

Do the leather seats get burning hot and does the car get burning hot inside when its sunny out?

ezpass...

I also have the plate mounting for my ezpass. I live in an area where theft is a common thing and I have had no problems with mine. Depending on your car color it almost blends right in.

Yep I live in NYC. I haven't put the front mount on yet, but I should. I did have one on an older car and used to park it in Harlem, and all over NYC never had it stolen.

Once you notice it's stolen, then you just call up and they cancel it. Simple.

As for radar, mine never work properly through the windshield.
