Low reverse Brake???

I spotted an item at Subaruparts.com http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=164-B

that says its for the SVX. How is this unit engaged, i.e how do I know if its working? as when i'm on a hill, in drive, the car does roll backwards?

Significant Technical Input
It's the low-reverse clutch in the transmission. If your car moves forward and backward it's working.

So this is not a rolling backwards brake?

I know my ex's 4WD MPV has the 4eat, and it doesn't roll backwards when you let off on the gas...in drive.

if I dont come to a complete stop in my car on a hill it will start to roll backwards. If I do come to a complete stop, then take my foot off the gas the car will not roll backwards. That's just my experiance. I'm pretty sure my transmission is in tip-top shape too.

The mechanic at the dealer said the SVX 4eat does not have hill-stop feature as I thought it should. He said "nope, not the SVX" he was pretty sure. But ya never know.

It really depends o how steep the hill is. The brake has nothing to do with braking the car though. You need to search the internet on "How a planetary gearset works."

Do the brakes go on?

or is it more like a coast to a stop?
