Re: Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...

I considered buying a new Hyundai before we bought the latest SVX. When we test drove one there was no comparison to the SVX and a brand new Hyundai... not in the same league.

If we sold our SVX for 20K, we would have to get something to get around in. Any used car would require repairs, usually a bunch. A new 20K wouldn't be much of a car and would not be a nice car to drive or even ride in. Nothing is as safe to drive as the SVX!

We are blessed!

Keith

Geez kinda harsh don't you think? Some SVX's yes are full of letdown and frustration, but you have to find the good ones. I've had my fair share of problems with my SVX's , hell I flew from Cali to fricken Jersey to buy my first one and then drove it to Tennessee only to have my dad total it out 2 weeks later, but number 2 has been a charm and screw the bad times she's given my one heck of a ride over the years and I wouldn't let her go for anything!!! My ex husband and I were arguing one day and as he was cursing me out over the phone (this was after he jumped out of my SVX while it was still moving and slammed the door with unbelievable force and I called him screaming to NEVER EVER SLAM MY !#$^%^%^%^%^%!#$%$%#!$%^%^ DOOR AGAIN!...lol anyways, he said all I care about is my stupid effing car and my stupid effing cat. I was about to correct him then thought you know what?! That IS all I care about!!!! Ahahahahaha!

well, I've enjoyed mine for about 98,800 of the 100K+ I've put on it. The only exceptions I can think of were driving about 100 mi with each of the noisy rear bearings the same year, and about 1000 miles that I drove with the dang falling visor before I finally had a new one installed.

I am with him...

Yes there are only a limited number of cars out there that drive like the SVX... BUT the ones that do, are so much better in so many ways. I had owned close to 10svxi in my time. Probably put around 100k collectively on them. I never, not even once, looked back and thought I made a mistake when I sold them all and bought the bimmer... There is just no comparison but the price tag.

You got me there. I agree that as a class and most one-to-one comparisons, bimmers are better than SVXs. They have been since '92. I wouldn't compare mine to my A6 either. Carreras and S2000s are nicer too.

Yes but it's not just the initial price tag here. Otherwise, yes, my sentimentality aside (which I'm sure could be bought for a price in the end), I won't deny there are some good replacements out there that could be picked up for the theorectical $20K someone is offering for my SVX.

But then I have this fabulous high performance expensive German car that is still going to collect miles and still need maintenance and still occasionally break. And now I'm paying 10X more to take care of all that, especially since now 100% of those things I'm going to some specialist shop or dealer for. Remember, I'm not you, Tom!

I can has lifetime covered maintenance, and the extra insurance premiums covered, then I will take a trade for one of these "better than SVX" cars.

What can you say, Tom? Certainly you can't admit that you made a mistake and that you cry yourself to sleep every night.

We understand...

But he got a free pair of Oakley's and a gold chain with his Bimmer, not just a pen light. That's gotta count for something.

I get the bimmer serviced at the dealer too... Still, the thing is, they are much more reliable cars than people let on.

Parts are cheaper and more readily available from aftermarket sources for the bimmer than they were for the SVX too. I got a full set of front control arms, bushings, ball joints, and outer tie rods for $275 brand new... ONE control arm for the SVX w/o ball joints are more than that. Rear control arms installed for $950 at the dealer... Do that with an SVX w/ just lat links costing $150 a pop not to mention the trailing arms....

SO dollar to dollar on repairs its about the same... Hard part with the bimmer is a new engine costs $23,000...> So its a good thing its bullet proof!

They have a reason to be snots since they have plenty of real classic cars over the past 65 years. BMW has only the favorite vehicle of Urkle from Family Matters to look back on, the Isetta. I'd be proud of that one too, it did have an innovative "tilt" steering wheel in it at least.

Wait a minute there Davie, I'm not the one buying my bread from Panera now am I. Then again, I do see plenty of Bring My Wrench pretenders when I drive past the Panera shi$hole here. Maybe it was just your average dealer service only Bring My Wrench owner needing to get to Starbucks who wanted to buy your car since his wouldn't start.

Remember, I'd still own a Subaru, if they still made something in the same class as the SVX. Sadly, all they make is vehicles that are almost as hideous as the rear end of the 7 series.

New 7 yes... The older ones though...mighty sexy!! and if you bash the 8 for style... you have issues... Not as many as the 8 mechanically though
