Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

Hi everyone, No, my SVX has never let me down. In many of these posts a belt broke. What I go by is to replace all belts and hoses every four years, regardless of the miles driven. Knock on wood, I have never had a belt or hose failure. On any car. Something to think about. Take Care, BOBB

Same here, that's why I termed the failure I had "inexplicable." This was a fairly new Gates belt that I installed myself, so I know it hadn't been stretched or forced over the pulleys. It didn't just break; it disintegrated. Made me wonder if I'd been sold counterfeit goods.

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

Yes, more than once!
Sheared front diff, bad MAF coupled with not liking to start when warm, and a broken timing belt (which messed up a camshaft). This is over the course of three years and 50,000 miles
AAA is a life saver!
A few in which I was able to drive home: top of radiator split, power steering pump failed, and a u-joint broke. 212,000miles on the car so I can't really complain.

My AAA membership is limited to 150 miles which is always a consideration when I plan a trip... so my answer would be "no".

Keith (knocking on wood)
Yes my car has been sitting at my apartment for 1-1/2 weeks waiting on a brake hose. Does that count? I can't drive it without baking the rotor.

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

I was just telling my buddy Sam the other day how stoked I was not having any issues with my SVX for the first time in 3 months since I've owned it... we laughed about it and I was like here... I'll even knock on FAUX WOOD!

well, fml if my SVX didn't die off an interstate ramp last night and needed towed back home. Thankfully, said friend has awesome AAA membership and they took my car back to our place...

Otherwise... never stranded for the 2 years I've owned it until last night.

PS- never knock on Faux Wood... never.
(don't say I didn't warn you)

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

+1 for AAA. a) Timing Belt with 30K on it b) Rear Brake Line rusted thru c) Alternator failure (disco dash) and d) Not stranded but uncomfortable: Idler pulley for A/C froze. As for the rest: Cars talk to you all you have to do is listen.

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

.

Once in the Polo (because of an overheating issue). Never in my pearlie.

AAA is the best insurance.

When transmission in my son's pearlie started slipping badly, OT asked me if there was any way thay I could get it out to his place (125 miles away)

At about 8:30 PM, I was climbing a long gradual hill on the way to OT's house in Cumberland (western Maryland). The tranny was already slipping badly when I left Baltimore, but 100 miles into the trip, and climbing that loooooooong gradual grade it finally happened.

I wish I had my digital camera ready to take a photo of the dashboard, with its soft green illumination, looking completely normal , except for:

The ATF OIL TEMP light glowing brightly...

The gearshift indicator in DRIVE and the tachometer at 4500RPM...

and the speedometer needle at ZERO!

AAA towed me the last 30 miles to Tom's house, where he installed a 4.44 transmission.

YT was following behind me the entire way. Suddenly he was enveloped in a dense cloud of acrid smoke from the ATF. It was the first time he ever saw the light come on as well.

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

My poor girl overheated three times on the way to and from training for work last week. Almost left me stranded but I had extra coolant that I got the day before.

It seems that she can't take "long" listances and steep moutains without spewing out antifreeze.

Re: Has your SVX ever left you stranded?

Last summer I had been dealing with a no-start issue. This led me to drive down to Advance Auto to get some parts for the starter relay mod. After I got out to the car, it gave me the dreaded click and after 10-15 tries it didn't want to turn over.

So, I undid the battery and started feeling around back where the lead goes to the starter. I felt this nut loose and it turns out that somehow, the nut that tightens the positive lead to the starter became loose. After tightening that and tightening everything else, the car started right away and that was the closest I ever was to having my SVX strand me somewhere.

I did the relay mod anyway just to be safe.

I will be having two wheel bearings, a radiator replaced, and power steering high pressure line replaced in the next few days in order to keep up the odds of me not being left stranded. Right now, the car leaves giant puddles of ATF mixed with antifreeze.
