I really LOVE that swiss ruby color and when I get my SVX repainted next year that's definitely what i'm going to get. My problem is I can only find 2 pictures of it. I have found some "red mica" photo's but I don't like that red.

Some people have said that the "Swiss Ruby Mica" and the "Red Mica" are the same color but I'm having a hard time believing it. Here are the photo's I'd like to model my car after

Swiss Ruby Mica and Red Mica are the same paint code 247

Not to be confused with Crimson Mica / Dark Red Mica ( known to us a Claret, code 265)

A while ago, Silverspear tracked down the Swiss Ruby Mica paint formulation from a foreign paint manufacturer, He was trying to get a cross-reference to the RM brand or another company used by us here in the US.

Might be worth sending him a PM to see if he made any progress. This would be extremely valuable information.

Are these cars the same color as the ones I posted before? I wasn't sure if it was the same color, just in different lighting conditions or what?

I mean, are these two cars also the color code 247?

Did he paint the Sun roof in place or removed . BTW great job. I painted car Back In The day and a color change as nice as yours takes a lot of time .

The first photo is definitely the Swiss Ruby Mica.

The second photo is a newer Corvette color called Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic or Sunset Orange Pearl. Paint code 71U (more of a copper color). Originally a 92 pearlie, it was restored and repainted by LSA-SVX. Nice choice!

I agree, that last pic might just be the lighting, or even the camera that the picture was taken with. That's the hardest thing about seeing pics online is that you have no idea how close to reality they really are.

I called a buddy of mine that works at Trade Secret here in Dallas and faxed him the paint info you posted earlier. He couldn't make the color from that, but he called the company they get thier paint from and they are doing a conversion for him. When he gets it, he'll see if he can do a sample of it so I can see how it would look.

If the end result is brighter like the first couple of pics I posted, then I think i'll get it done. If it's more dark and maroonish looking then I think i'll probably stick with my Barcelona Red. I like the barcelona but I wouldn't mind it looking a little more pearly red

it is brighter and much more lustrous in person. Neither the Barcelona Red nor the Brilliant Red have a metallic or pearl mica layer. That's what gives it the brilliance in the sun.

Many auto manufacturers are now using beautiful red pearl finishes on their newer cars. Check your dealers to see what is out there.

You also have the option of increasing the amount of pearl in your formula to suit your needs. Sjlwel had his 96 Polo Green custom-repainted with increased pearl in his paint. The same familiar stock color, but the added pearl made the finish incredible up close!

He said his painter could have increased the size of the metallic particles and even change their color (polo green with green pearl additives or green metallic flecks instead of gold or silver). The possibolities are endless.

Ok, so yesterday I went and picked up the paint samples from Major. Let me fill you all in on what's happened thus far. I gave Major the formula info from above. He consulted his paint distributor and they said that wasn't compatible with their system. So Major called a few suby dealerships that's worked with in the past in the UK. According to them, the Swiss Ruby Mica color was international paint code 947 and to top that off, there were 4 distinct versions of it. Each had a slightly different formulation based on geographic area (which confused the heck out of me, but whatever).

He and I discussed it and there was no way to figure out which was the formula that I was looking for, so he agreed to do a paint sample of each for me a nominal fee (just a half hour of labor to help cover his costs). I agreed and he had for swatches painted up just like it would be on a real car (clear coating and all)

They were completed Thursday and I went and picked them up. Major was right, they are all in the same family of red, but still distinctly different but all gorgeous just the same.

The 4 versions are: Standard 947, Cleaner 947, Bluer 947, and Lighter 947.

He's given me all 4 to look at and I spent most of the evening looking at them all in different lights with a friend of mine. We tested direct sunlight, shaded sunlight, halogen light, etc...basically every kind of light you can think of. Here are some observations:

Lighter: This one is the about the same shade as Barcelona Red. Imagine Barcelona Red with a pearl layer in it. It was almost an exact match for my current SVX. I liked it, but compared to the others, it looked a little more orangey.

Standard: This one is a little more red than the "Lighter" shade, which gives it a darker look, but only just slightly

Cleaner: This one is very close to the "Standard" shade but it has more blue in it than red. It also seems to be a tad brighter and more pearl. It's hard to describe, but it is the one that most closely "Ruby" color of that Swiss SVX that I posted before. It seems to be the same ruby red in light and shade and is a very deep color.

Bluer: This is the darkest of the bunch. It's still gorgeous but is obviously the color that the darker Swiss ruby mica SVX's are painted. It's almost a maroon color and is by far the darkest in the shade. It has the same pearl as the rest but is just darker. I believe this is the version used on the Australian SVX's from what we've been able to tell by looking at various pictures from the club.

I wish I could share these with you guys to get your opinions but i'm not sure how to do that. They are so close to each other that i don't think a camera or scanner would do them justice. I will see if i can find a way to post them anyway. If you have any questions, please let me know

Halistan, please do post pictures and maybe even video going over each sample in sequence. In your opinion, which one resembles the closest match to the ruby mica pictured with the deep cherry red almost crimson look to it.

I was thinking about having some places do the same but thanks for beating me to it!

Well, how cool is that to have a choice of 4 colors?! Agreeing with Subix, please share any way you can. They all sound beautiful, but the "Cleaner" and "Bluer" are most intriguing. I'm sure your work in searching this out will pay huge dividends every time you sit and stare at your baby.
