Tranny questions...a couple of em
Question #1) Sometimes it slips between 2nd & 3rd, allowing a bit of a rev-up but not that much, and only when under low load. Doesn't seem to happen when accelerating even moderately. Can this be improved by the "band adjustment"?
Question #2) When the OD or torque converter engages (this only happens after several miles of driving to warm up the tranny), I hear a distinct "groaning" or growling noise. Seems to work fine, but the noise is worrisome. Comments or advice? Thanks in advance!

Re: Tranny questions...a couple of em
yes, you should adjust the brake band to help the slipping. Don't wait too long as usually the simple fact that it is out of adjustment and slipping could mean it is already too late for the adjustment.

It may be that you have a cracked flex plate. If so you would need to be fitting a new one. If it totally breaks you are on the side of the road. http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/fil...iles/27764.jpg You could ask svxfiles or YT about this. I understand there is a newer tougher plate available now. Joe

I noticed today that I had a distinct vibration at exactly 60mph, that went away at greater or lesser speed. I do have a fair bit of left front bearing noise, I was wondering if a worn out bearing would have that vibration at a particular speed? Have just done the rear bearings...glad THAT'S over...

No the box has to come out to check it. It's like a flywheel in a manual car, but lighter.

Re: Tranny questions...a couple of em
If it's a rebuilt tranny (done at 90,000 miles), would it have been the thicker plate?
