TomSVX Intake

Finally installed my TomSVX intake. No problems except for connecting a couple of the vacuum hoses. I have not installed the CAI yet because I wanted to see what difference this makes and then any additional differences with the CAI.

Maybe I should have asked for red connection hoses instead of blue, but I don't think there was an option.

Re: TomSVX Intake

Very nice, colourful too. You should throw in an Optima Yellow Top for even more hues.

Where do the vacuum hoses go? I don't see how that one looks any different than the custom one SickSubie built.

Re: TomSVX Intake

The vacuum hoses connect on the back side of the Y-part of the tube.

I honestly don't know who originally designed this--I think it was a combination effort. I just know where I bought it.

For those that are not familiar with this and the significant HP gains resulting from installation you can check out this site and see the Dyno plots.

Can't buy them anymore though, he took them off the site. I was hoping to finally get to doing all these things one I paid off my final semester's tuition, but if AWD is really diffusing, I might just drive the car until spring break and then sell it.

Which was a copy of Tom and Kevin's design, that was used with permission.

Re: TomSVX Intake

Pardon my ignorance, but why does the dyno show hp readings in the 170's? Is 230hp just under ideal conditons?

That's wheel hp. 230hp is factory power measured at the crank. Wheel hp is the only thing that really matters since it's what makes it through the drivetrain and onto the pavement to get us moving.

Re: TomSVX Intake

Jesus, so 60 hp is basically lost in the AT and drivetrain? Thats discouraging.

Re: TomSVX Intake

You figure that AWD cars have typically 25% drivetrain loss, RWD has 11%-12% on average (some of the newer, more luxurious sports coupes have more), and FWD cars see 6%-7%. It sucks, but it is what it is.

I wish the numbers were that nice. Typical FWD cars see 15-20% loss, might be a few at a lower % but none higher(or thats a really sh**ty trans)
RWD will see about 18-22% loss, a few cars higher loss,
and AWD will lose 25-30%, again a few might be at a higher loss. This is for your typical Auto transmission setup. With a manual transmission you can subtract about 5-10% from those AWD losses, and about 5% from either FWD or RWD with a manual.
