clutch for svx conversion

ok so i got my transmission (05 RS 5 speed hydro) and I got a FW out of an early Legacy at Harry's so what clutch should I buy for my swap? Basically can I buy a WRX clutch or??? and what "stage" do you think is best? Which clutches are crap and which are good? I have been looking on ebay and well there are a few choices on there.

Thanks for any help and advise.

Re: clutch for svx conversion

I grabbed a ClutchMasters FX100. 70% more grip than 2.5RS (my transaxle's origin) stock... 165hp*1.7=280... That's more than enough.

Re: clutch for svx conversion

I run a stock WRX clutch and it works fine, but a WRX clutch will not work with a Non turbo transmission.

Interesting, why is that?
We have an 02 WRX 5MT to swap one day

Re: clutch for svx conversion

I used an Exedy KSB04. Check and see if it fits your application. Mine was a 07 impreza 2.5i transmission, so a couple years newer but the KSB04 might work for you as well. The KSB04 is also used with the EZ30R I believe it is, so more that enough bite (mine only slips when its my fault, i.e. letting off the clutch too slowly while pressing the gas, but as soon as I let off the clutch all the way it's solid). It is an Exedy OEM replacement, which is supposed to hold about 30% more power than the stock clutch, and it's at a very good price point. And I just looked it up and wallah... 1999-2005 impreza RS.

As far as I know turbo transmissions use a pull type clutch and non turbo transmissions uses a push clutch.

Allso I think the flywheel is different.

I used a Exedy OEM replacement KSB03 I think.

So, if swapping a WRX 5-speed, use the WRX flywheel and clutch and everything is good-to-go?

Yes, but you allso need the Hydro master and slave clutch parts from a wrx to. and a pedle set out of a hydro clutch car.

My car has
2002 WRX transmission
KSB03 clutch kit
2003 WRX flywheel
Hydro rs pedle set
2002 WRX slave clutch
2002 master clutch with a JDM master clutch tank on it.
SS clutch line
moded svx gas pedle
tomsvx crossmember
Legacy drive shaft (swaped the carier bearing with the stock svx one)
group n trany mount
group n motor mounts
group n pich stop

The group n mounts are much better then the stock stuff and made a big diffence for me.

Re: clutch for svx conversion

Thanks,
I have an STI pedal set, hydro and slave. Only need a clutch and pressure plate, plus mount and shifter. It's for Jon's silver, 4.111 aren't enough fun for a college student , clearly evidenced by many college students here

The KSB03 is the whole clutch kit. cluth disk, pressure plate, and bearing.

Save yourself time and money and get the group n mount to start with

Re: clutch for svx conversion

I'm running a spec stage 2 for an impreza nonturbo. This is my first 5mt so learning on it wasn't bad, but learning how to drive smoothly was another story. One year later and I can drive it pretty smoothly. I recommend the group n motor mount and trans mount. That way you won't have to replace it again. I haven't noticed any noticeable noise or vibrations from the new mounts.

Re: clutch for svx conversion

You'll need a clutch for an impreza non-turbo. I used a Spec Stage 2 on mine. Loved it.
