Do you drive for mpg?
Size, make, model tires? Air pressure?
Do you short shift, 1-3-5, or something like that?

You have some secrets, and some tips?

What's the other half of your commute?
What part of Colorado?

Re: 30 mpg svx

On a long trip (2000+ miles round trip) two summers ago when I first got my svx, I decided to turn the cruise off for a tank of gas while I was in the hills of tennessee. Going between 80 and 85 mph, I got an honest 30 mpg right on the nose. These things are geared so ridiculously long, they absolutely love crusing at that speed. Throw in our low drag coefficient, and you have a bonafide high speed mileage machine!

Exactly, that's why it took me 16 years to drive an SVX on cruise at 70 mph

I got 29 mpg on a run before the 30.6, running 75-85, so, thought I would see if I could persuade a bit more. Thought that was incredible on California gas, low octane, etc.

What tires and pressure were on your car when you got 30 on that trip?

Re: 30 mpg svx

30mpg is right on for cruising along at about 80mph. That is this car's sweet spot as far as efficiency is concerned.

My ebony 92 consistently got 30mpg.

Re: 30 mpg svx

you guys know what is funny: I got called a liar and everything in the book by that jack off cash68 over on the BF svx board (he is formally known as Chicane here (I think) but got booted for being a jackoff)

Thank you guys for backing up my story...all I was saying is that I can get 28 on the highway but that know-it-all jack off kept saying I was full of crap.

If you have a membership over there feel free to read some of my more colorful wording over there.

Matt,

Yeah, 28 mpg is not difficult, especially for those outside California. It's mpg higher than that that I would like owners to elaborate on. I drove from the East coast to the west coast, running 85mph all day long in RojoRocket's '97, averaged 28.5 mpg consistantly.

Re: 30 mpg svx

I got 29 coming back from OT's one time in the Emerald. I have since had to replace the trans (FWD) to a 3.90 from a 3.70 (I believe). My gas mileage on the highway has taken a hit dropping to 25 ish last time. That and 85 Mph didn't help any...

I was running the Bridgestone RE-750's at the time, 245/45r16, on 13lb. rx-7 rims. That could have helped, but the wider tire would have acted against it as well, as far as rolling resistance goes. I had approximately 44psi in the tires, and it was on 94 octane gas. Only mod at the time was a cone filter. I would imagine I could easily get better mileage now on a trip under the same circumstances, due to my engine mods.

Better mileage with engine mods, maybe, but now you're hauling a 'beastly' rear bar

I'm going to make the same run again, the week before Thanksgiving, perhaps not with 200 lbs. stuffed in the car. I want to make a change and see if it matters, will report if anything significant happens. I'll boost the air from 40 to 44ish as well.

The liquid silver cars like Nate has are slicker and consistently get better gas mileage!

I know my liquid silver does. Probably the fact that it just turner over 38,000 miles on it helps also.

Yes, I know, no offense taken, I was just having some fun, while taking note that 53 comes this December for me
