Unhappy AWD is not working...is this a tranny problem?

I am not a car savvy, so I don't have any idea what happened to my AWD. I am the second owner and I've been driving this car for 9 years. For the first time I have noticed this car handled poorly on the road the night we had the first snow storm in Chicago. The next day, I could hardly get out of my garage. I was rocking back and forth and noticed my rear wheels were not spinning. What happened to my AWD??? Does transmission has something to do with this? I had my tranny rebuilt 6 years ago. Does this mean I need to put another one?

Please help me understand. Thank you.

Duty C solenoid, transfer clutch, TCM etc. I'm in the same boat right now. I noticed the problem about a month ago in the first snow storm. I don't have the money or time to fix it right now but at least snow tires helped a lot otherwise the car handles dangerously.
Does you POWER light flash on start up? If so you can read the code/codes to help diagnose the problem.

Re: AWD is not working...is this a tranny problem?

Your solenoid C has probably gone bad and will likely need to be replaced. Well... that's the most common failure anyway. There are actually quite a few possilities related to this matter. Sheared transfer clutch gear, worn out transfer cluthches, or a faulty tcu could be the culprits as well.

You need to check for transmission related codes. Like stated above, stored codes would be indicated by a flashing "power" light on the dash on startup. It should flash 16 times if there is a code.

Once we have more information we can narrow down the possibilities.
