fuel pressure regulator

Anyone have any experience with getting the screws loose on the regulator?I can't seem to get them out and I'm afraid of stripping the heads. Why subaru didn't use bolts is beyond me. I have tried using a 1/4" drive socket with a phillips bit but I can't seem to get enough torque to break it loose. Any ideas anyone?

Yeah, a ratchet is what I've used. make sure the bit fits exactly. You may want to try some PB Blaster?? On the one, you can probably get a hold of it with some visegrips??

Can you fit an impact driver in there? Slot it in the screw and whack it with a hammer! They work great if you have the room! http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...70_36882_36882

to close to the firewall to get any swing to a hammer.I think they used screws instead of bolts so to much torque wouldn't get applied and shear off the head. I try not to use hammers in the engine compartment I'm trying blaster on them and have got the top one loose it's the lower one thats a bear.More news as it develops

Ok This is what I did. Maybe not regulation but with a bit of care it worked.

I used the jack from the car and a screwdriver. Arrange it so the end of the screwdriver is against the jack and tighten the jack just enough to keep the screwdriver tip from moving and stripping the heads. Then use an adjustable spanner (wrench) on the flats of the screwdriver and unscrew very gently making sure there is enough pressure to hold the screwdriver tightly in place.

I agree bolts would have made more sense. Hope this helps.
