Is our wheel bolt pattern 114 and 114.3?
I found these, is our bolt pattern the same but rounded?

Yes, they're the same. Actually, quite a common size across car makes. You will also see it quoted as 4-1/2" - 5 bolt. Keep an eye on the offset though to avoid any rubbing problems inside your fenderwell. There are also some good previous threads here about how tire sidewall height should change with wheel rim size to maintain clearance and speedometer accuracy. The latest Grassroots Motorsports mag had a good tire (tyre) road test review with a BMW, starting with stock 225 tires on 7-1/2" - 16" rims (like the SVX) up to 8" wide - 18" rims and 245 wide tires. The 8" - 17" wheels were the best performers for autocross and comfort with 235 and 245 tires.
There are far more informed people than me here which I am sure will chime in soon. Gene Someone correct me quick if I'm wrong.

that is what I run now... 18s would just be a bit for me. I'm hoping that my 17s give enough room for a brake upgrade, if not it'll be the only reason to go 18 in my book.
and yes 114 is like an abbreviation for 114.3

I'm wanting bigger brakes, so I'm looking at 18's that are light. I rather drive smaller diameter. Is there a formula to calculate offset? It seems to me if you have a wheel that is deep set the offset would be different that a shallow offset. The center of gravity for that wheel is what truly affects offset, correct?

Offset is the distance from the wheel center to the mounting surface:
The amount of offset you will need depends on the rim width. On 8" wide rims the acceptable offset is pretty tight, right around the +48/+50mm range. Too much positive offset and the tire will rub against the strut. Too little and it will rub the fender.
