However it is very likely that a scissors lift door hinge would be far easier to fit, and might even complement the futuristic "cockpit" design of the SVX cabin. Are you not interested in going that route? Is it because it has already been done? Joe

In all honestly, I like the shape that the body kit gives to the car. But alot of the lines really dont make sense, the fender flares would be nice if they went along with the prototype style "wide-bodied SVX" instead of just having arches in an area where there originally were none. The front bumper really finishes off the "shape" of the car for me, but I dont like the supra-esque style or the individual headlights. Dont get me started on the wing. The sideskirts have a nice lower-profile, but none of the lines really match anything else on the car (which is something I see often with bodykits, especially the ones on Honda's). I will say the 6-spoke wheels look better than I originally thought, the car wears them well (even though I still love 5 and 7-spoke wheels more). Paint is crap.

I have a sliding door on one side of my Mitsubishi RVR. It's very useful in that it does not open out and hit cyclists etc, plus it does not catch on the kerb. Bad points include the fact that it could hit you while filling the petrol if somebody got out of the car to go to the shop while you were filling up, say. Another bad point is that it hangs from an upper and lower runner. Unlike a hinged door which is firmly clasped [no movement] at both hinges and at the lock when closed, when the sliding door is in closed position there is room for the weight of the door to move. This allows movement and vibration when traveling over bad surfaces, and very annoying squeeking of the sealing rubber. In relation to your idea for sliding the SVX doors, this Mitsubishi door is approx half the length, front to rear, of our SVX door. And I suspect maybe one third of the weight You face serious engineering challenges to make such a system work on our cars if the doors are to open back far enough to allow entry to the front, never mind to the rear seats The best of luck with it. Joe

id also have to have it slide forward and not backwards simply because itll be easier to reach foreward and pull it back than visa versa. i also have another idea as far as the mechaism design and the wiring owuld have to be connected like in the toyota vans by the metal contacts in the door and frame.

cant use the roof at all considering the glass takes up the whole deal, itll have to be a midpoint and lower connection, i dont expect the sealing ot be any different than that of a frameless caddilac door or any convertible. i may redesign the interior door pannels from scratch as a result, but i intend on keeping them to match.
im considering using multiple swing arms or a scissorlift style with actuators instead of a slide giving the same movement so the doors would work like a sideways jack outward when the lock is popped near the front and a telescoping swingarm towards the lower rear of the door to guide it, then a second swingarm on a slide conencted near the top of the interior panneland near the lower front to bring it forward. so it would have 3 points of stabilization and 2 points of sliding. the motion is basically moving the door 3 inches outward followed by a slide movement of approximately 40 inches. i predict neding some kind of "desk drawer" style telescoping slides the hang up (no pun intended) will be clearance so i can still get in and out of the car witohut stepping over too much, and having enough range of slide forwardto swing my legs out... the pro of having it swing forward would make the shape of the door look right and give back seat access as well as being easier to close the door by reaching forward and pulling it back. bu having a rear slide would allow me to use that plastic pannel under the rear window to add a track externally. a forward slide door would have no visible slides from the outside. so the most reasonable way is the least functional

DAMN!!! I love the wide fenders... I was thinking of how to do it on my car.... and that just gave me the best idea.
Overall... is rice.. but you gotta admit he did a good body work and the optional design is not that bad... |
